COLUMBUS - With the calendar changed to 2023, the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team heads on the road to Canton for a Great Midwest matchup on Thursday (Jan. 5) evening.
Tipoff for the Panthers and Pioneers is at 5:30 PM from Osborne Hall.

OPENING TIPOFF
- Ohio Dominican starts 2023 with a two-game winning streak after they defeated Trevecca Nazarene 74-57 on New Year's Eve.
- Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) scored 23 points on ten-of-15 shooting vs. Trevecca. He has led the team in scoring seven times and tallied nine games of 10+ points (3 of 20+ pts.). Overall, Szul leads the team with 14.2 points and 3.2 assists per game. In conference games, Szul is scoring 17.4 points per game (2nd in the G-MAC) and has made 26-of-29 free throws (89.7% - 3rd best). He scored the 3rd most points in December among G-MAC players (17.6 PPG).
- Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) has averaged 17.8 points while shooting .521 (24-46) from the floor and .433 (13-30) from deep over the last four games - all double-digit affairs. In December, he scored 10.4 points, up from 6.4 points in November. Against Trevecca, Marks scored 16 points with five assists.
- Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) scored seven points in his third start. Since returning from injury on 12/10, Heard is scoring 9.8 points per game with a .408/.333/.800 clip and five blocks.
- Ohio Dominican led at halftime against Trevecca, the 3rd time this season ODU has led at half - they are 3-0 when leading.
- In wins, ODU is outscoring teams 73.0-61.4. The Panthers have held teams to under 60 points in three of five wins (49, 56, 57).
- Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) made his fifth straight start and totaled a season-high 17 points. He tied a career-high with five threes on seven attempts.
- Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) scored nine points off the bench, the lowest bench output this season for the Panthers, a team that averages 20.85 BPPG, 5th in the G-MAC.
- Malone leads the Division II series history with the Panthers, sitting at 13-5 since ODU joined D2 for the 2010-11 school year. The Pioneers have won six straight contests and have collected wins in eight of nine matchups in Canton.

Malone begins 2023 with a 9-2 record overall and 4-1 in the G-MAC. They sit in a second place tie with Ashland, half a game behind Hillsdale.

The Pioneers have won five straight games, dating back to a 76-66 win over Walsh on Dec. 10. They hosted two non-conference teams over the NYE weekend with both being wins - Central State (96-61) and Point Park (91-56).

Malone has two one-possession losses this season, a 74-73 defeat at Lenoir-Rhyne and a 57-55 loss to Lake Erie.

Justin Miller leads the Pios and the G-MAC with 18.2 points per game and he also paces the major team categories of assists (4.5 APG) and steals (1.6 SPG). He averages 20.4 points in G-MAC games and tallied nine games of 10+ points along with five games of more than 20 points. He was named G-MAC Player of the Week on Dec. 19.

Bo Myers sits behind Miller in 2nd among the Pioneers and all G-MAC players with 17.9 points per game. He also leads the G-MAC with 9.0 rebounds per game. In November, Myers scored 22.0 points per game, best in the G-MAC as he was awarded G-MAC Player of the Week on Nov. 21.

Malone has started the same five in all 11 games.

Malone averages 78.5 points scored, 41.1 rebounds, and is shooting .473 overall (.387 from deep). The opposition is scoring 62.5 points per game, grabbing 30.9 rebounds and holding a .398 clip shooting (.347 from three).

The Pioneers lead the G-MAC in rebounding, rebounding margin and defensive rebounds.
