COLUMBUS - After a two game homestand at Alumni Hall, the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team will finish January on the road on Saturday (Jan. 28).
The Panthers will travel to Findlay to play the Oilers for the only matchup of the season, tipping off at 3:00 PM.

Ohio Dominican was in a dogfight last Saturday against Walsh, falling 62-58. The contest saw 16 lead changes and seven ties.

ODU sits at 6-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference with one month left in the regular season, four games out of the eighth seed.

Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) led the team with his 13th game in double figures, totaling 20 points for the sixth time. Overall, Szul leads the team with 15.3 points and 3.1 assists per game. In conference games, Szul is scoring 17.2 points per game (2nd in the G-MAC) and has made 42-of-46 free throws (91.3% - best in the league). Entering play Saturday, Szul has 906 career points, putting him 94 short of the 1,000 point plateau.

Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) tallied 18 points for his ninth game in double figures. He paced the Panthers with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. For the season, Jones has scored 12.1 points per game with a team-high 5.7 rebounds.

Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) had four points with six rebounds. He is shooting .487 (19-39) from three as a starter (9 games), compared to .179 (5-28) off the bench (eight games). He sits second on the team with 24 three pointers.

Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) scored five points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Heard has two games this season with at least four rejections and five games with seven rebounds or more.

In the month of January,
Zach Szul is second with
Jarius Jones sitting third in the G-MAC with 18.4 and 18.0 points per game, respectively. Jones is 7th in rebounding (6.2 RPG) and Szul is 24-of-25 at the free throw line (96.0%). Heard has seven blocks in January (1.4 BPG), slotting third.

Ohio Dominican is 0-6 on the road and scoring 56.8 points per game. They shoot .332 from the floor and .280 from three outside of Sunbury Road. The Panthers have not won a road game in the last 12 tries, dating back to January 3rd, 2022 at Trevecca Nazarene (W, 56-51).

The Panthers have started nine different lineups in 18 games with two different lineups starting four games. 11 players on the roster have started at least one game with injuries plaguing ODU. With the current starting five, that group is 1-3 so far.

Ohio Dominican is 3-21 against the Oilers in the Division II era as Findlay holds a 11-2 advantage in games in Niekamp Arena. Each team won the road game in the 2021-22 season as ODU won 76-66 in Findlay while Findlay won 69-66 on Sunbury Road.

Findlay returns to the friendly confines of Niekamp Arena at Croy Gymnasium to host ODU after a narrow road win on Thursday at Northwood (66-64).

The Oilers are 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the G-MAC, currently fourth in the G-MAC race. Findlay have lost conference games to Hillsdale, Malone, Cedarville and Ashland.

In the month of January, Findlay is 4-2 as they score 76.7 points (3rd in G-MAC), while shooting .471 overall (4th). They led the G-MAC in free throw % (.837) and three point % (.398).

Nathan Bruns, the reigning G-MAC Player of the Week, leads the Oilers with 16.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 0.7 blocks. Last week against Ashland and Malone, he averaged 22.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and shot 66.7% from the floor.

Bruns is 3rd in the G-MAC in scoring (16.9) and field goal % (.573).

Joey Edmonds is second in scoring with 13.7 points with a team-high 42 three pointers.

Deven Stover is the third player in double figures with 10.7 points per game along with 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Findlay averages 77.9 points scored, 30.2 rebounds on offense and is shooting .486 overall (.398 from deep - 1st in the conference). The opposition is scoring 75.3 points per game, grabbing 32.6 rebounds and holding a .491 clip shooting (.396 from three).

The Oilers lead all 290 Division II schools with a 81.8 free throw percentage. They rank 16th in three point percentage.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head south to Kentucky and Tennessee next week to complete the three-game road trip. Ohio Dominican will play Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday (Feb. 2) before heading to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday (Feb. 4).
