COLUMBUS - With five weeks left in the 2022-23 regular season, the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team will close out the out of conference slate at Alumni Hall.
Ohio Dominican plays host to the Salem Tigers on Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 6:00 PM in a mid-week matchup.

Ohio Dominican went 0-2 last week, falling 80-53 at home to Cedarville and then 67-52 on the road at #10/8 Hillsdale. The Panthers sit 5-11 with a 2-8 G-MAC mark, dropping three straight games.

Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) averaged 24.5 points in two games, most of all G-MAC players. He tallied 23 points and eight rebounds against Cedarville and then set a career-high with 26 points along with six rebounds. He shot .568 from the floor, making 21-of-37 overall. For the season, Jones has scored 10.9 points per game with a team-high 5.4 rebounds. In January, Jarius is 3rd in the G-MAC with 17 points per game.

Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) scored ten points at Hillsdale. Overall, Szul leads the team with 14.4 points and 3.1 assists per game. In conference games, Szul is scoring 16.9 points per game (2nd in the G-MAC) and has made 37-of-40 free throws (92.5% - best in the league). He has 11 games in double-digits with four games of 20+ points. Among active career conference players, Szul is ranked 4th with 13.7 points per game.

Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) averaged five rebounds per game last week, including seven boards at Hillsdale. He has five games of six or more rebounds.

Caleb Laurich (Akron, Ohio) has four games of two blocks this season after a two rejection day at Hillsdale. He is tied for seventh in the conference with 12 blocks.

Ohio Dominican is 5-5 at home this season, averaging 68.4 points per game compared to 0-6 on the road and scoring 56.8 points per game. They shoot .424 from the floor and .333 from three in Alumni Hall.

In ten games within the G-MAC, Ohio Dominican is 3rd with 77 three pointers and 6th in three-point % (.316).

The Panthers have started nine different lineups in 16 games with no lineup starting more than four games. 11 players on the roster have started at least one game with injuries plaguing ODU.

The Panthers and Tigers have met five times since ODU went to Division II on the court. Salem won the first four games in the series until Ohio Dominican won the last meeting, a 100-95 double overtime thriller. The teams split the season series in the 2021-22 with the home team winning each time. Three of the five games were within five points and all games have featured results within ten points.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
- Salem is 9-8 overall this season as an DII independent school. Against D2 competition, the Tigers are 5-7 and 4-1 against non-division teams.
- As an independent, Salem has gone 4-2 against MEC schools, 1-1 against the PSAC, 0-1 vs. the SAC and CIAA, respectively.
- The Tigers have lost to a pair of G-MAC schools (Lake Erie, 75-74 & Tiffin, 62-57).
- Six games this season have been decided within six points and seven within ten points.
- Salem defeated Concord at home on Monday, 84-68 to win their fifth game in the last six contests.
- Stan Smith has eight games of at least 20 points this season as he leads the Tigers with 20.1 points per game. S. Smith is shooting .509 from the floor while leading the Tigers with 48 threes and a .462 three point %.
- Rodney Smith sits behind S. Smith with 11.7 points per contest. He scored a season-high 28 points against Concord. He is the leader in free throws (62) and assists per game (3.1).
- Ashraf Tchadouwa and Justin Tene sit atop the rebounding category for Salem, averaging 6.4 and 6.2 rebounds per game, respectively.
- Salem averages 79.4 points scored, 40.1 rebounds, and is shooting .450 overall (.341 from deep). The opposition is scoring 73.4 points per game, grabbing 35.9 rebounds and holding teams to a .418 clip shooting (.297 from three).
- They are 18th in Division II for three point defense (.297) and 28th in defensive rebounds per game (28.12).
