Panthers, Yellow Jackets Set for Home-and-Home Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team will take on Cedarville this week in a home-and-home series.

The Panthers will host the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, before traveling west to Cedarville at 4:15 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19. 

OPENING TIP-OFF

  • Ohio Dominican returns home for the seventh game inside Alumni Hall in its last eight outings. 
  • The Panthers are coming off a two-game split last week, defeating Salem at home in double overtime, 100-95, before falling on the road at Lake Erie, 60-57. 
  • This will be the third consecutive season ODU has faced an opponent in back-to-back games, going 1-1 against both Ohio Valley last season and Tiffin in 2019-20.
  • Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio) posted a career-high 28 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists versus Salem, his second triple-double of the season, which ties him for the national lead in Division II. 
  • West has raised his team-high season averages to 15.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.
  • The guard has produced at least 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in nine of the last 12 games, a stretch he is averaging 16.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists. 
  • Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) has reached double-digit scoring in eight straight games.
  • Szul led ODU in both games last week, including a career-high 33 in the win over Salem and has raised his season scoring average to 13.7 points per contest.
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Ind.) has seen extended action of late, having logged 20-plus minutes as a reserve in three of the past five games. 
  • Webb was ODU's third leading scoring in the Salem contest, tallying a career-best 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting. 
  • ODU has produced 11 different starting lineups this winter, but is 2-2 with Szul, West, Matt Hall (Evanston, Ill.), Brandon Gibson II (Dayton, Ohio) and Mitch Wilkinson (Grand Rapids, Mich.), who have started every game of February. 

ABOUT CEDARVILLE

  • Cedarville has battled through COVID-19 issues to produce a 14-10 overall record and 9-7 mark in Great Midwest play.
  • The Yellow Jackets have won four of their past six outings, including last time out against Wilberforce, 83-62. 
  • Prior to back-to-back three-point losses to Lake Erie, Cedarville had defeated Findlay, Ky. Wesleyan and Trevecca by an average margin of 29.0 points per game. 
  • The Yellow Jackets are 8-3 at home this winter, including a 6-2 mark since the calendar turned to 2022. 
  • Cedarville is one of the top three-point shooting teams in the country with a .392 clip, which leads the G-MAC and is 20 in Division II. 
  • The Yellow Jackets are scoring 77.5 points per game, while conceding 73.5 points to their opponents.
  • Branden Maughmer paces CU and ranks fourth in the G-MAC at 17.1 points per game. Maughmer is also adding 6.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 
  • Quinton Green (13.4) and Isaiah Speelman (11.3) also have double-digit scoring averages.
