Kentucky Wesleyan Takes All-Panther Matchup in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. -  The Ohio Dominican Panthers (9-17, 5-13 G-MAC) men's basketball team traveled to Owensboro for a Great Midwest game against the other Panther team in the league. 

The Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (20-6, 14-4) defeated Ohio Dominican 72-58 on Saturday (Feb. 22) in the Owensboro Sportscenter. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Elijah Hinton paced the Panthers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Hinton was seven-of-14 on the floor, making one three and three-of-six free throws. 
  • Terrance Broughton scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds and three assists. He made six field goals with a trio of three pointers.
  • Jaylan Green totaled ten points, five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes off the bench. 
  • Derek Goodman and Brady Moore each made a three pointer for a total of three points. 
  • Carson Seemann stole five turnovers with his four rebounds. 
  • Zac Kimball was perfect shooting, making his one three point try and both free throw attempts. 
  • Ohio Dominican shot 41.5% from the floor in the game, making 22-of-53 field goals. Kentucky Wesleyan finished with a 45.8% field goal percentage, going 27-of-59 from the field. 
  • KWC made 12 threes to ODU's seven in the game with Kentucky Wesleyan winning the rebounding category 35-30. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • KWC got the lead to five points twice in the first two minutes (5-0 & 8-3) before the Panthers closed the lead to one point two different times (8-7 & 10-9). 
  • After ODU got the lead to 10-9, five straight KWC points opened a 15-9 lead five minutes in. 
  • Three ODU threes helped fuel an 11-0 run, giving ODU a 20-15 lead before the under-12 media timeout. 
  • Ohio Dominican led for the next five minutes before Kentucky Wesleyan took back the lead at 27-24 with 6:30 left in the first half. 
  • ODU trimmed the lead to one twice (27-26 and 29-28) but Kentucky Wesleyan led 37-30 at halftime. 
  • Goodman made a three to open the second half and close the gap to 37-33 but KWC ballooned the lead to ten points (45-35, 47-37 and 50-40). 
  • A 7-0 ODU run allowed the visiting Panthers to trail 50-47 with 13 minutes left. 
  • Kentucky Wesleyan outscored Ohio Dominican 22-11 and won the game 72-58. 
UP NEXT
  • The Panthers will close the road portion of the schedule with a Thursday (Feb. 27) matchup at Malone.
