COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team is set to host Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan this week in Great Midwest action.
The Panthers and Trojans are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, with ODU then welcoming KWC at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5.
OPENING TIP-OFF
- Ohio Dominican continues its season-long six-game homestand by welcoming the two southern most institutions of the G-MAC, Trevecaa and Ky. Wesleyan.
- ODU opened January with a road trip south, splitting the trip with a weekend win over Trevecca coming after a loss at KWC the Thursday prior.
- Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio), who has led ODU in scoring in six-of-nine games since the calendar turned to 2022, led the Panthers in scoring in the first meetings against KWC (17) and TNU (19).
- Szul has raised his season scoring average to 12.1 points per game and has double-digit efforts in nine of the past 11 outings.
- Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio) filled the stat sheet in a midweek loss to Hillsdale last week, registering the program's first triple-double (14 pts, 11 rebs, 11 asts, 7 stls)and just the 11th across NCAA Division II this year.
- West leads ODU in four major statistical categories; points (14.7), rebounds (5.9), assists (5.5) and steals (1.5) per game.
- Matt Hall (Evanston, Ill.) has started the past four games and is coming off the best statistical performance of his collegiate career against Findlay.
- In ODU's most recent game, Hall tallied a career-high 19 points, while also tying a personal best with 12 rebounds.
- Under coach Winter, ODU is a combined 2-7 vs. TNU and KWC.
ABOUT TNU
- Trevecca enters its contest with ODU with a 5-15 overall record, but did earn a victory over Walsh last week, handing the Cavaliers just their third conference loss of the season.
- The Trojans are 2-11 in G-MAC play this winter and are still searching for their first road win in 2021-22 (0-8).
- TNU is averaging 62.6 points per game, the lowest mark in the G-MAC this winter.
- The Trojans are also allowing 73.0 points per outing, but lead the conference in blocked shots per game, 3.4.
- TNU boasts four players listed 6-foot-8-inches or taller, including 7-2 Brendan Newton.
- Newton leads the G-MAC with 1.4 blocks per game, while adding 6.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
- Central Ohio native, CJ Penha, paces the Trojans in scoring and rebounding with 20.3 and 10.3 marks, respectively.
- Josh Price is averaging 13.2 points per game and has scored in double figures in three of the past four games.
ABOUT KWC
- Ky. Wesleyan enters a vital week on its schedule, as the Panthers sit one spot outside the top six in the G-MAC standings as play begins in the final month of the regular season.
- KWC has dropped four straight games entering the week and are 10-12 overall and 5-9 in G-MAC play.
- Despite the four-game losing skid, KWC will look to build off a strong second half in its most recent outing against Walsh, outscoring the Cavaliers 43-32.
- The Panthers are just 3-7 in road games this winter and have lost back-to-back away games entering the week.
- KWC is middle of the pack in both scoring offense (73.5) and scoring defense (68.3).
- Jordan Roland leads KWC in scoring this season, averaging 14.5 points over 22 appearances. Roland posted 15 points and four assists in the first meeting with ODU.
- Wyatt Battaile and Ben Sisson are each producing over 10 points and six rebounds per game.
