Men's Basketball Battles Falcons in Exhibition Contest

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team got a taste of #MACtion on Thursday (Dec. 29) as they took on the Bowling Green Falcons of the Mid-American Conference at the Stroh Center in an exhibition contest.

Ohio Dominican battled Bowling Green in the first half before the Falcons pulled away in the second half, winning 102-65.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) opened the scoring with a three pointer 90 seconds into the game, putting the Panthers ahead early.
  • Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) answered a Falcons three pointer with a pair of free throws as Ohio Dominican regained a 5-3 lead.
  • The Falcons took back the lead with four straight points before Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) tied the game with a jumper at the 15:58 mark.
  • Over the next four minutes, Bowling Green went on a 13-0 run, opening a 20-7 lead with 11:59 left.
  • Ohio Dominican began to answer back with a run to put them back in the game, within five. The Panthers made six of their next seven baskets to go on a 15-7 run over 4:55 of game action.
    • Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio), Haynes and Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) all made three pointers on the rally as Heard led with four points on two buckets.
  • A Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) jumper with 7:04 to go in the first half put ODU down 27-22.
  • Bowling Green pushed the lead to ten again with a 7-2 run, leading 34-24 with 4:12 left in the half.
  • Heading into the locker room, Ohio Dominican closed the gap again with a 13-8 push over the final 3:46 left.
    • Szul, playing in front of a fanbase near his hometown of Waterville, scored six points on the run.
  • Ohio Dominican trailed 42-37 at the halftime break.
  • The Falcons started the second half with eight straight points and outscored the Panthers 56-13 over the final 16 minutes.
  • ODU went on an 15-4 run, scoring eight straight points with seven points from Jones to go with a three pointer from Kayin Derden (Columbus, Ohio) and five points from Caleb Laurich (Akron, Ohio).
  • Bowling Green won 102-65 over the Panthers.

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • Jones came off the bench with 17 points, 13 coming in the second half. Jones hit five baskets and tallied six of his eight free throw attempts.
  • Szul scored 12 points, shooting five-of-ten overall and two-of-four from the charity stripe. He was tied for the team lead with four rebounds.
  • Heard added nine points in the game on four-of-nine shooting.
  • Haynes made two three pointers and a pair of free throws for eight points total. He led with three assists, tied with Vic Mwamba (Dublin, Ohio).
  • Laurich put up seven points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) had three steals in the game.
  • ODU shot 50% (14-28) in the first half and finished with a 34.3% (23-67) field goal percentage.
