Panthers Resume Action for Bowling Green Exhibition

COLUMBUS - After a week off for the Christmas holiday, the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team will return to action in Northwest Ohio on Thursday (Dec. 29). The Panthers will face the Division I Bowling Green Falcons in an exhibition contest at the Stroh Center, beginning at 5:00 PM.

OPENING TIPOFF

  • Following the holiday break, Ohio Dominican will play at the Stroh Center for an exhibition contest against D1 Bowling Green on Dec. 29. 
  • Ohio Dominican entered break with a 71-56 win over Wheeling at home, snapping a three-game losing skid. 
  • Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) led the Panthers with 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Szul has led the team in scoring six times and tallied eight games of 10+ points. Overall, Szul leads the team with 13.4 points and 3.3 assists per game. 
  • Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) added 13 points, his third straight game in double figures. Marks hit three pointers, giving him a teamp-high 19 threes. In the last three games, Marks is averaging 18.3 points while shooting .500 (19-38) from the floor and .423 (11-26) from deep. 
  • Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) returned to double-digits for the fourth time this season with 13 in his second straight start. Since returning from injury on 12/10, Heard is scoring 10.5 points per game. 
  • Ohio Dominican has outrebounded teams in seven games this season, going 4-3 in that instance. The Panthers are 4th in the G-MAC with 37.2 rebounds per game, including 11.4 offensive boards (3rd in the G-MAC). 
  • Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) scored 18 points off the bench on Monday, making eight-of-ten shots in 22 minutes. Johnson returned to the court after missing two games. He is averaging 9.9 points per game in nine contests. 
  • This will be the second matchup with the Division I Falcons in the Division II era. The Panthers faced the Falcons at the old Anderson Arena in 2010 - the 2nd game for the D2 era at ODU. The Falcons won 81-55 that day under the direction of the late head coach Louis Orr. 
  • Since 2010-11 (the beginning of the Division II era), the Panthers have played eight contests with D1 teams. Including exhibitions, Ohio Dominican is 1-7 overall. The Black and Gold have played Bowling Green, Ohio and Toledo - all MAC schools in exhibitions in recent years. 

ABOUT THE FALCONS

  • Bowling Green enters the contest with a 5-7 overall record, all non-conference games so far in the 2022-23 season. 
  • The Falcons last played Fairmont State on Monday (Dec. 19), winning that contest 93-74 at the Stroh Center behind a season-high 93 points and 54% field goal percentage.
  • BG have played two Division II opponents this season, including Mansfield in an exhibition (W, 79-64). 
  • The Falcons had a five-game losing streak, sandwiched between a pair of two-game winning streaks. The Fairmont State win snapped a two-game slide. 
  • Leon Ayers III leads the Falcons with 15.7 points per game and 1.4 steals per contest. Ayers has 2.8 assists per game, 2nd most on the team. 
  • Samari Curtis is averaging 12.6 points, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game while leading the Falcons in assists. 
  • Rashaun Agee is scoring 10.5 points per game with a team-best 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. 
  • Bowling Green averages 73.7 points scored, 37.8 rebounds, and is shooting .421 overall (.312 from deep). The opposition is scoring 75.2 points per game, grabbing 35.4 rebounds and holding a .454 clip shooting (.371 from three). 
  • Michael Huger is in his 8th year as head coach for the Falcons, his alma mater. His record at BG is 120-112.
