Panthers Welcome Senators for Wednesday Evening Clash

COLUMBUS - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team plays host to a former Great Midwest school - the Davis & Elkins Senators at Alumni Hall on Wednesday (Nov. 16) night. 

The Panthers and Senators will meet at 7:30 PM as a part of a doubleheader on Sunbury Road.

OPENING TIPOFF
  • ODU is 1-1 overall this season after they split the opening weekend slate of UIndy and Wilberforce. 
     
  • The Panthers dropped the season opener 81-39 at UIndy on Friday before coming home to a 81-73 victory over Wilberforce on Sunday. 
  • Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) led the Panthers in scoring in each of the first two games. He scored nine points against the Hounds before scoring 24 points against the Bulldogs. Johnson is averaging 16.5 points per game on ten-of-25 shooting (six-of-11 from three) and .700 (7-of-10) from the free throw line. 
  • Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) made his Panthers debut on Sunday with 11 points and eight rebounds. 
  • Caleb Laurich (Akron, Ohio) fuels the rebounding front as the freshman grabbed 18 rebounds in two games, including 11 in the Sunday contest. He also has two blocks in each game this season. 
  • Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) scored 11 points on Sunday, his first double-digit scoring effort of his career. 
  • After pulling down 45 boards against Wilberforce, the Panthers average 39 rebounds per game - tied for third in the conference with Cedarville.
  • Four Panthers are shooting over .400 from the season, led by Mitch Wilkinson (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Caleb Laurich with a .556 shooting percentage. 
  • The Panthers sit first in the G-MAC with 9.5 steals per game after swiping the ball 13 times against Wilberforce. 
  • Since Ohio Dominican and Davis & Elkins played as members of the G-MAC for two years, the Panthers hold a 4-0 advantage over the Senators in the series. They have not played since Davis & Elkins departed the G-MAC in 2019 for the MEC. 

ABOUT THE SENATORS

  • The Davis & Elkins Senators enter the matchup in Alumni Hall with a 2-0 record after opening weekend wins against Shaw (83-71) and Livingston (75-65) at West Virginia State. 
  • The Senators have four players in double figures after the first weekend of play. D&E is led by Sam Rolle IV, who knocked down a team-high 13 field goals, five three pointers and seven free throws to average 19.0 points per game to go along with five assists per contest. 
  • Evan Busby averages 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting .611 (11-of-18) overall.
  • Vadim Clanet is scoring ten points and pulling down eight rebounds per game for the Senators.
  • Ashton Lovette holds a 10.0 point and 3.5 rebound average through two games. 
  • The leading rebounders for D&E are Clarens Pierre (9.0 RPG) and Cortney Walton (8.5 RPG). 
  • The Senators have made 12 blocks in two games, sitting fifth in Division II with 6.0 per game. 
  • Davis & Elkins averages 79.0 points scored, 46.5 rebounds on offense (10th in D2) and is shooting .403 overall (.333 from deep). The opposition is scoring 68.0 points per game, grabbing 40.0 rebounds and holding a .370 clip shooting (.226 from three).

The homestand continues with a Thanksgiving eve contest against another former G-MAC opponent - Alderson Broaddus. The Panthers and Battlers will face off on Wednesday (Nov. 23) at 5:00 PM at Alumni Hall.
