Men's Basketball Hosts Lake Erie and Wright St.-Lake This Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team hosts Lake Erie and Wright St.-Lake this weekend inside Alumni Hall.

The Panthers host Lake Erie on Thursday with tip set for 5:30 p.m. before ODU hosts the Lakers Saturday in their final nonconference game of the season at 1 p.m.

The Panthers come into the week at 9-12 overall and an even 6-6 in the conference after a loss to Tiffin last Saturday.

Senior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) notched his 10th double-double of the season last Saturday scoring 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The senior forward leads the Panther offense averaging 19.0 points per game while grabbing 9.3 rebounds. His 10 double-doubles leads the conference and is 14th in the country and his 7.43 defensive rebounds per game also leads the conference and is ninth in the country. His 44 career double-doubles is tops amongst active players in the NCAA Division II, three ahead of Andrew Sischo of Daemen.  Also, among active players in NCAA Division II, Varence's 1,015 rebounds ranks him third in the country and just 18 behind Ja'Sean Lewis of Cal State LA.

Fellow senior Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) is second on the team in points per game at 16.0 and scored 21 while grabbing a season-high nine rebounds in the loss Saturday. Hickey is fourth in school history in career points sitting at 1,522 while his 292 made career three pointers rank him fifth among active players in NCAA Division II.

Michael Scott (Hebron, Ky.) is the final Panther averaging double-figures at 10.9 points per game while also leading the guards in assists at 5.95 per game. Over the last seven games, the senior point guard has averaged 10.3 points per game to go along with 8.6 assists per contest.  

About Lake Erie

The Storm come into the week with a 13-9 overall record and are 7-5 in conference play. The Storm have lost two of their last three and are coming off a win against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Earlier in the season, the Storm bested the Panthers in Painesville 96-78 behind Gabe Kynard's 28 points. Kaleb Vaughn also poured in 16 points per game and Kevin Peterson had 14 points and seven rebounds. Erron James provided a spark off the bench for the Storm scoring 12 points and had three steals on the defensive side. Also, the Storm shot a season-high 60% from the floor in that contest.

Kynard continues to lead the conference scoring 19.9 points per game and is the only Storm player to average double-figures. The Lake Erie offense scores 76.1 points per game while shooting 42.9% from the floor and just 33.2% from behind the arc.

About Wright St.-Lake

The Lakers are 4-17 overall this season and have common opponents of Lake Erie, Tiffin and Walsh this season. Before they come to Alumni Hall, they play Wilberforce Wednesday evening.

The Laker offense averages 78.8 points per game led by sophomore guard Chaz Hardin who leads the roster with 14.1 points per game while Tahj Benton averages 13.9 points.

Defensively, the Lakers allow 101.7 points per game with their opponents shooting 49.1% from the floor.
