Men's Basketball Hosts Tiffin Saturday in Alumni Hall

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team is set to host Tiffin this Saturday in Alumni Hall with tip set for 1 p.m.

The Panthers have won three of their last five games and currently sit 9-11 overall and 6-5 in G-MAC play. This past week, the Panthers survived a double overtime scare from Ohio Valley by a final score of 99-93 before defeating Tiffin 79-67 on the road Saturday evening.

Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season averaging 23.5 points per game to go along with 10.5 rebounds. The senior forward shot 62.5% from the floor (20-for-32) which included an astounding 71.4% from inside the arc (20-for-28).

In the win over Tiffin last Saturday, Varence posted 31 points and nine rebounds shooting 15-of-21 from the floor. With Varence's seventh rebound of the contest, he joined Jim Underwood as the only two players in Ohio Dominican history to record at least 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds.

In the Ohio Valley contest last Thursday, three players recorded double-doubles including Varence's 16 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow senior Michael Scott (Hebron, Ky.) recorded his second double-double of the season scoring 17 points and dishing out 10 assists. Scott is the first player since Luke Lyle in 2004 to have multiple 10-plus assist games in a season.

Sophomore Arius Jones (Lansing, Mich.) recorded his first double-double of his career scoring a career-high 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds with six being offensive.  

Redshirt freshman Ethan Haynes (Florence, Ky.) and true freshman Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) each notched career-highs in the win over Ohio Valley with Haynes scoring a team high 22 points and Marks scoring 21 with 14 of those 21 coming in the two overtime periods.

In the win over Tiffin, the Panthers shot a season-high 60.3% (35-of-58) from the floor which included 29-of-40 (72.5%) from inside the arc. That also included outscoring the Dragons 48-24 inside the paint.

The Panthers now lead the all-time series against Tiffin 9-8 and are 4-3 inside Alumni Hall.

About Tiffin

The Dragons come into the week with a 7-14 overall record and are 1-10 in the conference as they head to Alderson Broaddus Thursday evening before making the trip to Alumni Hall Saturday.

In the 79-67 loss last Saturday to the Panthers, Jairus Stevens led the way scoring a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Stevens leads the Dragon offense that scored 80.7 points per game scoring 17.6 points per game.

Brevin Brimble came off the bench to provide a spark for the Dragons scoring 17 points with five made threes. Wesley Jordan is second on the Dragon roster in scoring at 10.9 points per game and last week scored 10 points to go along with eight rebounds in the loss.

Defensively, the Dragons allow 84.4 points per game and the 79 points given up to the Panthers last Saturday was the second least amount of points given up in a loss by Tiffin this season.
