Men's Basketball Hosts Ohio Valley Before Traveling to Tiffin This Week

GAME NOTES

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team continues Great Midwest Athletic Conference play hosting Ohio Valley on Thursday and traveling to Tiffin on Saturday.

Tip for the game in Alumni Hall will be at 5:30 with tip at Tiffin set for 3 p.m.

The Panthers are coming off a pair of conference losses at Lake Erie and against Cedarville. The Panthers are now 7-11 on the season and are 4-5 in the conference.

Slow starts downed the Panthers in both games as they were unable to secure second half comebacks in the pair of contests.

Senior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) notched his eighth double-double of the season which leads the conference and is 13th in the country with his 15 point, 11 rebounds performance in the home loss to Cedarville last Saturday. Varence is just 19 rebounds away from being the second member of the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound club with Jim Underwood (1968-72) (2,091 pts., 1,192 rebs.). Varence currently sits third in all-time points at ODU with 1,517 and is second in rebounds with 981.

Senior Michael Scott (Hebron, Ky.) has been the floor general for the Panthers this season as he has averaged 10.8 points, 7.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game over his last five games. Scotts 86 total assists on the year and 5.4 assists per game are both second in the conference while his 2.69 assist to turnover ratio of 2.69 is third in the conference and 28th overall in the country.

Freshman Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) has provided a spark off the ODU bench as he scored in double-figures both games last week scoring 13 points at Lake Erie and a team high 15 points against Lake Erie where he made a career-high four threes.

About Ohio Valley

The Fighting Scots enter the week with a 4-14 overall record and are 1-8 in G-MAC play after a pair of losses against Malone and Walsh last week.

Ohio Valley scores 70.9 points per game led by Dylan Harrison's 17.1 points which is sixth in the conference while Keon Claiborne and Ognjen Vasiljevic average 15.6 and 13.5 points, respectively.

The Scot defense allows 84.1 points per game and are second in the conference in blocked shots per game at 4.1. They are also second in the conference in rebounds per game at 38.22. Parker Black leads OVU grabbing 7.0 rebounds per game to go along with his 9.9 points and David Adeyemo grabs 6.8 rebounds and his 2.2 blocked shots per game leads the conference and is 16th overall in the country.

In the five games the Panthers have played with the Scots, ODU has not lost a game with an average margin of victory of 19.4 points with the largest coming a year ago in the 104-76 Panther win in Alumni Hall.

About Tiffin

The Dragons come into the week with a 7-12 overall record and are also 1-8 in the conference after losses at Cedarville and Lake Erie this past week.

The quick Dragon offense scores 81.6 points per game with four players averaging double-figures led by Jairus Stevens at 17.4 and Joshua Williams at 16.6 points per game. Trent Williams and Jordan Wesley also average double-figures at 10.7 and 10.6 points, respectively.

The offense leads the conference in both free throws made and free throws attempted and is second in the conference grabbing 10.8 offensive rebounds per contest.

Defensively, the Dragons give up 84.5 points per game and they lead the conference in turnovers forced per game at 16.1.

Since 2010, the Panthers and Dragons have played 16 times with each team earning eight wins. On the road, ODU is 4-5 at Tiffin but are winners of three of the last four.
