COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team suffered a 77-56 defeat to Michigan Tech in a GLIAC matchup at Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (6-3, 2-2 GLIAC) dropped just their second contest in the last six games with the loss and their 6-3 start marks the best beginning to a season for the program since 2004-05.

ODU held a decisive, 41-14 edge in bench points over the Huskies.

Freshman Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) led Ohio Dominican with a career-high 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, going 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) also recorded a career-high in points, scoring 11 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the free throw line and 2-of-3 shooting from the field. Freshman Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and went 2-of-4 from three-point range.

Michigan Tech (4-5, 2-1 GLIAC) began the game on an 18-3 run, but ODU countered with a 15-6 run of its own to battle back into the game. Junior Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio) scored on a layup at the 14:07 mark to begin the run, and a three-pointer by Hoyng at the 10:13 mark of the first half cut the deficit to just 24-18.

But the Huskies outscored the Panthers 22-14 for the remainder of the first half to take a 46-32 lead into the locker room and held ODU to just 24 points in the second half, earning the win, 77-56.  

Ohio Dominican will look to get back in the win column on Thursday, December 15 when it travels to Wayne State for a GLIAC contest at 7:30 p.m.
