COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team will return home this weekend for GLIAC matchups against No. 13 Lake Superior State and Northwood.
The Panthers (3-9, 0-6 GLIAC) will face their first ranked opponent inside Alumni Hall this season when they tipoff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 7 against LSSU. ODU will then host Northwood for a 3 p.m. tilt on Saturday, January 9.
ABOUT OHIO DOMINICAN
Ohio Dominican's last game versus Northern Michigan was highlighted by career milestones from senior Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) and sophomore Ronnie Williams (Columbus, OH). With 12 points last time out, Weaver hit the 1,000 career point plateau, becoming just the 21st player in program history to achieve the scoring mark. For the year, Weaver leads the Panthers in scoring, 14.7 points, and rebounding, 9.3 per game. He ranks inside the top 20 in the GLIAC in each category and his six double-doubles this season is 14th in NCAA Division II.
Williams posted 29 points against NMU to lead the Panthers, a mark which set a new career high and a season high for any ODU player this season. As part of his career scoring night, Williams was 12-for-12 from the charity stripe, becoming the first player since Adriene Rodriguez in the 2009-10 season to shoot 100 percent from the foul line in a game, with at least 10 attempts. Williams is currently 32-34 from the line this season, as his 94.1 percent shooting is sixth in the nation.
After a 23 point performance against Michigan Tech last Saturday, senior Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) is closing in the 1,000 point club himself, as he now sits at 910 career points. The 23 points marked a new season high for Nelson, and was his 45th career game in double figures.
As a team, the Panthers continue to take care of the basketball as their 10.8 turnovers per ballgame ranks fifth in the conference and is tied for 31st in the NCAA. ODU's assist-to-turnover ratio, 1.28, also ranks inside the top 50 in the country.
ABOUT LAKE SUPERIOR STATE
Coming off two GLIAC wins last weekend, Lake Superior State (11-1, 6-0 GLIAC) has vaulted up five spots in the national rankings to 13th. The Lakers are currently riding a nine game winning streak.
LSSU has the highest average scoring margin in the conference, defeating opponents by 15.8 points per contest. The Lakers are led by Devin Daly who is averaging 22.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, both team highs and inside the top five in the conference.
Akaemji Williams is scoring 18.3 points per contest, and ranks second in the GLIAC in assists per game at 6.7.
ABOUT NORTHWOOD
Northwood enters the week with the highest scoring offense in the GLIAC at 88.1 points per game. The Timberwolves will face Tiffin on the road Thursday before traveling to Columbus.
Winners in three of their last four games, NU is led by Maurice Jones. Jones tops the conference in assists at 7.1 per game, and is also leading the Timberwolves in scoring 22.3, and rebounding, 5.0 per contest.
Dylan Langkabel and Jermaine Myers are each averaging over 12 points per game, as both are shooting over 40 percent from three point range.
