Balanced Scoring Paces the Panthers Past Wayne State, 82-68

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Five players scored in double figures for the first time this season, as the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team completed the season sweep on Wayne State, defeating them by a final score of 82-68, inside Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Panthers (7-14, 5-11 GLIAC) still sit just 2.5 games out of third place in the GLIAC South Division. The Warriors fall to 4-16 overall and 4-13 in the GLIAC with the loss.

Freshman Mike DeLeon (Powell, OH) scored a career high 19 points, shooting 50 percent from the field (5-of-10), and making all nine free throw shots he attempted. DeLeon also tied for a team high with seven rebounds.

Juniors Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) and Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) scored 17 and 15 points respectfully. Weaver also snatched down seven rebounds. Nelson grabbed four rebounds, while also dishing out a team high four assists.

Freshmen Ronnie Williams (Columbus, OH) and Shemar Waugh (Columbus, OH) each scored in double figures as well. Williams scored 16 points, and tied a career high with four rebounds. Waugh had 11 points and three assists.

Up by as many as seven points through the first 15 minutes of the second half, WSU had cut the deficit to one point, before a three pointer from Waugh gave the Panthers a 67-63 lead with 5:25 remaining. ODU would score 15 of the game's final 20 points, as baskets and free throws from DeLeon, Weaver, and Williams sealed the victory for the Panthers.

ODU held their largest lead of the game after a breakaway dunk from Williams gave the Panthers an 82-68 lead with just under 20 seconds remaining.

The Black and Gold would concede the first six points of the game to WSU, but the Panthers answered with the next six points of the game.

With the game tied at 18-18, the Panthers would go on a 15-6 run to take their largest lead of the opening half, nine, at 33-24, with 4:12 remaining before halftime. ODU would take a 39-33 lead into the intermission.

The Warriors would score six of the first eight points in the second half, but the Panthers would never relinquish the lead in the second period.

ODU would hold advantages in points in the paint (38-28), points off turnovers (20-14), and fast break points (12-6). The Panthers also shot 80.6 (15-of-31) percent from the charity stripe.

The Black and Gold will look to build upon their victory as they travel to Walsh for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff next Thursday, February 12.
