COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three players tallied 16 or more points, but Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team fell 84-72 Friday night in GLIAC play to visiting Michigan Tech.

The Huskies hit 11 three-pointers and shot 48.2 percent from the field in improving to 6-3 (3-2 GLIAC), while ODU (2-8, 0-5 GLIAC) shot 45.3 percent from the field and made 17-of-21 (81.0 percent) from the free throw line.

Junior forward Trent Weaver (Hilliard, Ohio) had 17 points and 14 rebounds, junior guard Chad Nelson (Columbus, Ohio) poured in 19 points and freshman guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) added 16 for the Panthers.

However, the Huskies countered by having all five starters score in double figures, led by Ben Stelzer's game-high 20 points.

ODU fell behind 30-9 in the game's opening 15 minutes, but came alive offensively to close the half, tallying 21 points in the final five minutes of the frame.

A three-point play by Williams cut the score to 32-22 with 2:20 left, and Nelson hit a pair of threes and two free throws to get ODU to within 34-30. A three-pointer before the break gave Michigan Tech a 37-30 lead at the half.

The Panthers stayed within five, 46-41, on a pair of Nelson free throws early in the second half, but consecutive threes by the Huskies pushed the lead to 11 five minutes into the half. The Huskies went back in front by as much as 17, 62-45, before the Panthers rallied again.

Threes by Williams and Nelson cut it to 10, 65-55, and junior guard Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) found Weaver for a reverse layup that cut it to eight with over seven minutes to play.

But the Huskies answered with seven straight points to go on top 72-57 with 5:40 left, and the Panthers could only draw as close as eight down the stretch.

Ohio Dominican returns to action at 3 p.m. Sunday against Northern Michigan in Alumni Hall.
