The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team earned a tough GLIAC win on Thursday morning, defeating #36 Tiffin University, 6-3.
Doubles saw the Dragons grab the early advantage as they were able to claim 2-of-3 courts. The lone doubles point for the Panthers came from Ritchie Kruunenberg (Fr./Nieuw-Vennep, Holland) and Justin Tjon (So./Wilemstad, Curacao) on court one, 8-4.
An energized ODU team play insprired tennis taking the first three singles courts in straight sets to recalim the momentum and the lead, 4-2. Tyler Johnston (Sr./Wilmington, OH) earned the win on court three, 6-2, 6-0 to even the score. Tjon followed close behind, winning on court two, 6-2, 6-1; while Kruunenberg finished off his opponent on court one, 6-3, 6-1. Needing one more singles point for the GLIAC win, ODU's Gerardo Perez (Jr./Mexico City, Mexico) secured the win for the Panthers, winning at #6 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Jeremy Mokry (Sr./Hilliard, OH) earned ODU's final point with a tough 5-7, 7-6(3), 10-4 win on court four.
"Winning a tough match the way we did showed a lot of guts for the men today," said head coach Ryan Beigle. "Watching the seniors compete in their final regular season match at home is always an emotional time, but I was proud of the battle and commitment the guys played with."
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 29th as they travel to Findlay for a GLIAC match-up with the Oilers. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
