The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team concluded their Northern Michigan journey on Sunday afternoon, defeating Michigan Tech 9-0, sweeping the U.P. swing.
Doubles play saw the men earn breaks of serve on all three courts, taking control of the match with three doubles points. Gabor Csonka (Fr./Nyiregyhaza, Hungry) and Justin Tjon (Jr./Willemstad, Curacao) jumped out to a 4-1 lead on court one, eventually winning 8-3. At two doubles, Patrick Ohanian (Sr./Hudson, OH) and Arklon Del Pino (So./Lima, Peru) gained control midway through the pro-set, winning 8-5. On court three, Gerardo Perez (Sr./Mexico City, Mexico) and Stijn Van der Zee (Fr./Rotterdam, The Netherlands) earned the matches lone break of serve at 4-4, holding on for an 8-6 win.
Csonka jumped out to a commanding 5-1 lead on court one, winning 6-1, 6-0 to bring the team within on point of the GLIAC win. Del Pino gave the men their third GLIAC win soon after, winning 6-2, 6-2 on court two. Van der Zee earned a tough 6-4 first set win, before rolling in the second set, 6-0 on court four. Tjon battled back from a set down at #3 singles, winning 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Ohanian and Perez finished off the scoring for the men with wins on courts five and six, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0.
The men return to action on Saturday, March 28th as they play host to Walsh University in another GLIAC match.
