ALLENDALE, Mich. -- A strong effort by the Ohio Dominican men's tennis team proved not enough as host Grand Valley escaped with a 6-3 win on Friday afternoon in Allendale, Mich.
Doubles play saw the Panthers fall short in 2-of-3 matches, winning only one point, 8-4, at #3 doubles. Jeremy Mokry (Jr./Hilliard, OH) and Tito Bonadonna (Sr./Caracas, Venezuela) took control midway through the pro-set to improve their doubles record to 5-1 on the young season.
In singles play, ODU put themselves in a strong position to earn the GLIAC win, but fell short, winning only 2-of-6 singles matches. Mokry earned a singles win on court four with a strong 6-2, 6-3 win. Walid Gtari (Fr./Tunis, Tunisia) came from a set behind to win his match on court one, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3 for his first GLIAC win.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they travel to Ferris State to take on the Bulldogs. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Big Rapids, MI.
