DETROIT – An 11-0 Wayne State run midway through the second half proved too much for Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team to overcome as the Panthers fell 90-85 in GLIAC action Saturday.

ODU trailed 60-58 with 10:53 to play after sophomore guard Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) hit a short jumper, but the Warriors held ODU scoreless for the next three and a half minutes as Wayne State built a 71-58 lead with 7:54 left.

The Panthers drew within five on a pair of occasions late, but WSU answered each possession with a three-pointer to pull away with the win.

Minch finished with 26 points and six rebounds to lead the Panthers, while sophomore forward Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) had 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Classmate Chad Nelson (Columbus, Ohio) added 14 points and four assists and senior guard Brandon Carr (Chicago, Ill.) added 11 off the bench.

But Wayne State shot 49.2 percent from the field (32-of-65) compared to 45.1 percent (32-of-71) for the Panthers and knocked down 20 free throws as well.

ODU got off to a quick start in the contest, building a 24-14 lead midway through the opening half following a layup by Nelson. Wayne State responded with a 16-2 run of its own, though, going on top 30-26 with 5:36 to play.

The Panthers battled back and drew even at 40-40 with less than a minute left, but the Warriors would take a 42-40 lead into the locker room.

ODU started the second half strong as well, building a 49-44 lead on another Nelson layin and staying in front 51-46 after two Minch free throws at the 15:53 mark.

The Warriors came back to tie it at 51, though, then went on their final run to build that 13-point cushion.

Both teams committed just five turnovers in the game and ODU held a slight 42-41 advantage on the boards.

The Panthers return home to host Ferris State at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 in Alumni Hall.
