The Ohio Dominican men's tennis program rose to the occasion on Saturday morning, earning a hard fought GLIAC win over Lake Superior State and securing a spot in the upcoming conference tournament next weekend.
The Panthers, looking to carry over momentum from yesterdays dramatic win over Michigan Tech, took 2-of-3 doubles points to start the match. Winning their 9th match of the year, Tito Bonadonna (Jr./Caracas, Venezuela) and Jeremy Mokry (So./Hilliard, OH) secured a solid 8-3 win on court two. On court three, Patrick Ohanian (Fr./Hudson, OH) and Gerardo Perez (Fr./Mexico City, Mexico) rebounded from a tough defeat yesterday, winning 8-5.
Singles play provided excitment as LSSU took early leads in many key spots. With their post season future on the line, seniors Claude Badowski (Sr./Oundle, England) and Carlos Perez (Sr./Miami, FL) won their respective matches on courts three and four 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-3, with Badowski securing the deciding point for the Black and Gold. Bonadonna, Gerardo Perez and Mokry finished off their singles points to give the Panthers the 7-2 conference win.
"What a great weekend for the guys as they came focused and ready to compete at a high level," said head coach Ryan Beigle. "I look forward to seeing hwo the guys compete at the tournament next week."
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 17 as they travel to Cedarville University for a regional match-up with the Yellow Jackets. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
