Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Panthers scored in double figures but Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team fell 86-68 to Wayne State in GLIAC action Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
The loss moves the Panthers to 3-3 (0-2 GLIAC) while the Warriors improve to 3-1 (2-0).
Senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Sophomore center Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) tallied a career-best 11 rebounds and totaled 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting including a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity strip. Junior Don Kellum (Chicago, Ill.) also had a career-high, scoring 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Trailing by 13, Jones hit a three-point shot with 37 seconds left on the clock to cut the lead to 10 going into intermission.
The Warriors held a 20-17 edge in rebounds over the Panthers while shooting 46.4 percent from the field in the first half.
With less than 9:00 minutes left in the second half, Kellum hit an acrobatic hook shot to put the Panthers within three, 58-55. Less than a minute later, freshman Jesse Ward (North Pole, Alaska) hit a jump shot from the left wing to cut the lead to one, 58-57.
ODU tried to keep the score close, but the Warriors went on a surge to take an 86-68 lead with time expiring on the clock.
Ohio Dominican shot 23-of-62 for the game (37.1 percent), while WSU finished 26-of-56 (46.4 percent). The Panthers committed 10 turnovers to 11 for Wayne State, and the Warriors also shot 28 free throws to ODU's 16.
The Panthers return to action at 6 p.m. Thursday as ODU takes on Ferris State at the Bulldogs Jim Wink Arena.
