Three Panthers Win Events at Capital

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers indoor track and field team returned to action on Saturday (Jan. 13) for the CapFam Alumni Classic at the Capital Center Field House. 

Some of the Panthers competed in the 60 meters and the mile in the first event of 2024. 

WOMEN

Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) finished in the top spot for the 60 meter preliminaries and the final with her teammate G'nae Morrison (San Antonio, Texas) in third place for both events. Armbrust and Morrison ran respective times of 7.70 seconds and 8.02 seconds (season-best) for the prelims. Armbrust improved to 7.67 seconds to win the finals with Morrison crossing the line at 8.24 seconds. 

Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) paced the group in the mile with a 5:56 16 personal best in fifth place. Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) was eighth overall with a time of 6:07.32 in her first race of the indoor season. Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) had the third fastest time for the Panthers in 11th place at 6:20.43. Alyza Camp (Waynesville, Ohio) and Anna Blackstone (Lexington, Ohio) finished back-to-back with times of 6:48.70 and 6:48.72 in 15th and 16th place. 

MEN

Eugene Boahen went wire-to-wire in the 60 meters with a first place finish in the prelims and the finals. He had a 7.01 second prelims time and improved to a 6.97 second finals time to win. 

Four other Panthers joined Boahen in the 60 meter finals with top eight qualifying times. For the prelims, Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) clocked in at 7.09 seconds for the second fastest time with Tyler Wallace right behind Obas in third place at 7.11 seconds (a PR). Aly Diaby was sixth with a 7.14 second time and his teammate Cole Miller at 7.18 seconds in seventh place. Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) ran a 7.22 second prelims time for the 11th fastest race. 

Boahen. Diaby and Wallace finished all on the podium in the finals. Diaby got faster to a personal record of 7.08 seconds in second place with Wallace in third place at 7.13 seconds. Miller and Obas were at 7.15 and 7.16 seconds, respectively in fifth and sixth place. 

Three Panthers made the jump to the mile from the distance side of the roster. Eayuel Gebrtsadik (Columbus, Ohio) won the mile with a personal best of 4:33.04. Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) crossed the line in fourth place with a mile of 4:33.88. Rogan Hanson (Craig, Alaska) stopped the clock at 4:49.99 in his first race of the year.

The Panthers will jump back to the schedule next Saturday (Jan. 20) at Ashland.
