Panthers Fall in Home Doubleheader with Grand Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Senior Jake Daniel (Troy, Ohio) continued his strong approach at the plate, but Ohio Dominican baseball dropped both halves of a home doubleheader with Grand Valley State on Friday, March 26.

Daniel combined to go 4-for-7 in Friday's doubleheader. For the three-game series, the senior finished 8-for-12 with seven runs driven in.

Grand Valley (15-7) claimed both games in Panther Valley Friday, winning the opener 9-3, before taking the nightcap, 12-4. GVSU enjoyed a 34-12 advantage in hits over the 16 innings played over two games.

GAME ONE

The Lakers jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage, but the Panthers (8-14) took advantage of GVSU fielding miscues to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning to close their deficit to 5-3. Ohio Dominican tallied just one hit though over the final four frames, with GVSU adding two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to claim the 9-3 victory.

Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) went 2-for-3 and led off the third inning rally for ODU with a base hit. Four of the first five batters reached base safely for ODU in the third.

Grayson Hamilton (Lebanon, Ohio) and Michael Lesiecki (Uhrichsville, Ohio) combined to pitch the full seven innings on the mound for ODU, combining for three strikeouts.

GAME TWO

Daniel and Michael Knapp (Elyria, Ohio) combined for five of the Panthers' seven hits in the second half of the twinbill, going 3-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively.

Daniel drove in a run in the bottom of the first and Gianni Passarelli (Delaware, Ohio) went deep in the second for his first collegiate home run, but ODU still trailed GVSU, 3-2. The Lakers went on to score in every inning but the third, including multiple runs in the first, fourth and eighth innings.

Leading off the bottom of the fourth, Daniel blasted his first home run of the season to left center. He then drove in the final Panther run in the bottom of the eighth with a double to right center.

Four pitchers appeared for ODU on the mound, a group highlighted by the relief efforts from Tyler Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio). Sullivan threw 1.1 innings, allowing one run and striking out two batters.

UP NEXT

With Saturday's scheduled game with GVSU cancelled, ODU will now return to action with a four-game home series against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2.
