Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. — Goals off corner kicks in the 47th minute by Ohio Dominican junior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) and senior Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) in the 89th minute, both on assists from Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) off corner kicks, earned Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team a 2-0 win at Northern Michigan in a GLIAC contest on Friday afternoon.
With the victory, Ohio Dominican (3-3-3, 2-0-1 GLIAC) remains unbeaten in GLIAC play and has won or tied the last three matches. The Panthers have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 5-2 during the stretch.
ODU outshot Northern Michigan (1-7-1, 0-7-1 GLIAC) 13-10 and recorded five total shots on goal for the match, also holding a crucial 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, which it converted into two goals.
Pavlik led the way with one goal on three shots on goal and six shots overall. Johnson connected on her one shot on goal of the match, and senior Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, Ohio) finished with three shots, one on goal.
Sophomore Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) started the match, recording three saves, while junior Kelsey Harris (Mason, Ohio) also helped the Panther defense hold the Wildcats scoreless, recording two saves of her own.
The match was tied 0-0 at halftime, with the Panthers heading into the locker room holding a 5-3 advantage in shots. But the offense broke through in the 47th minute, as D'Isidoro took the corner kick and found Pavlik, who put the ball to the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
After a strong second half defensive effort by the Panthers, D'Isidoro was once again able to take the corner and find a fellow Panther for a goal, this time Johnson in the 89th minute, giving ODU a decisive 2-0 advantage.
Ohio Dominican will continue its Upper Peninsula GLIAC trip on Sunday when it faces Michigan Tech at 12 p.m.
