Panthers Roll Past NMU 3-0, Advances to Second Straight GLIAC Semifinal

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On an unseasonably warm November day, Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team started hot and played strong throughout in earning a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan in a GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup Tuesday at Panther Stadium.

With the win, Ohio Dominican – the No. 4 seed – advances to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals at Grand Valley State, where they will face the Lakers with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

In a rematch of a GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal meeting last fall, which the Panthers also won, ODU needed just over five minutes to crack the scoring column. Junior Courtney Kozak (Millersburg, OH) lobbed a pass over the Wildcat defense, and senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) beat the keeper to the ball and finished off the shot to give ODU a 1-0 lead.

That would be the lone tally of the opening stanza, as ODU had a 7-4 edge in shots. It was also the seventh time ODU has scored in the opening 11 minutes of a match this season.

Northern Michigan had two chances to score in the 57th minute, but Kozak knocked away a header near the post and sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Harris (Mason,OH) made a leaping save moments later on another header to keep ODU in front 1-0.

Three minutes later, Pratt played a long ball from midfield through the Wildcat defense to freshman Susan D'Isisdoro, who beat the keeper with a blast to the left of the net, giving ODU a 2-0 lead.

With less than three minutes remaining in the match, sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) tallied the third goal of the match for the Panthers off a long pass from classmate Jess Wolski (Cincinnati, OH).

The Panthers are now 7-0 this season when leading at halftime, including a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan at home earlier this season. ODU has now won six consecutive matches against the Wildcats, scoring three goals in each of the last four meetings and has four shutouts, while outscoring NMU 15-3 over the six game stretch.

Pratt moved into third on ODU's all-time scoring list with 71 career points and is now tied for third in career goals scored with 26. The semifinal match on Friday will be the 77th of her career, a school record.

For the match, the Panthers outshot NMU 15-11, while both teams tallied six shots on goal. D'Isidoro and Pratt each logged three shot attempts to lead the way for ODU.

Ohio Dominican (10-8-0) will be playing in its third GLIAC Tournament Semifinal in school history. Northern Michigan (7-10-0), the tournament's No. 5 seed, ends its season at 7-10.
