Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Ashland at home to end the regular season on Friday night.
Though the Eagles (13-3-0, 9-3-0 GLIAC) came out on top on the scoreboard, the real victor tonight was the soccer community. Both ODU and Ashland came together to support Ashland head coach Danny Krispinsky as he was recently diagnosed with colon and liver cancer. Through raffle prizes, a split-the-pot, tee shirt merchandise sales, and general donations, there was over $2,000 raised for Krispinsky and his family.
Though the Panthers (9-8-0, 8-4-0 GLIAC) outshot Ashland 19-9 for the match, the Eagles scored the lone goal in the 74th minute. ODU would try to catch AU offsides on a free kick, but Kelsey McKernan would find the back of the net after hitting the left post.
In the 85th minute senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) took a shot on a free kick from 25 yards out, but the Eagle goalkeeper made a save, and ODU was unable to capitalize on the rebound.
Junior Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, OH) recorded two shots in the final five minutes, but the Panthers were unable to find the equalizer. Riviello tied for the team high in shots with four, while pacing ODU with three attempts on goal.
With the win, Ashland locks up the third seed in the GLIAC tournament which begins next Tuesday, while the Panthers will be the fourth seed.
Sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) and freshman Meghan Martella (Cincinnati, OH) each logged four shots on the night, while junior Madison Baldwin (Zanesville, OH) pitched in three attempts.
The Panthers will await their opponent for the GLIAC Quarterfinal as two conference matches still need to be played on Saturday. ODU will host whoever falls in the fifth spot at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, at Panther Stadium.
