Panthers Have Successful Day of Competition at Jim Wuske Invite

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men and women's track and field team had a successful day of competition at the Mount Union annual Jim Wuske Invitational Saturday afternoon in Alliance, Ohio.

On the men's side, junior Aaron Johnson (Troy, Ohio) captured a fourth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.86 while junior Darrell Harley (Columbus, Ohio) placed ninth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 10.00.

In the 500 meter dash, junior Kenny Brown (Westerville, Ohio) was first after crossing the finish line with a time of 1:08.24.

Juniors Ashton Hall (Huber Heights, Ohio) and Jason Williams (Powell, Ohio) each placed in the top-five in the 800 meter run as Hall came in second with a time of 1:58.82 and Williams in fifth with a time of 1:59.91.

Freshman Tyler Higgins (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) and sophomore Halston Jones (Columbus, Ohio) found success in the 1000 meter run. Higgins placed fifth with a time of 3:15.10 while Jones finished close behind in sixth with a time of 3:16.82.

Two Panthers finished in the top-10 in the 3000 meter race. Junior Michael Barber (New Franklin, Ohio) placed ninth with a time of 9:20.70 and sophomore Austin Kilgore (Pickerington, Ohio) was 10th with a time of 9:23.75.

The 4x400 meter relay team of junior Ashton Hall (Huber Heights, Ohio), junior Xavier Leonard (Atlanta, Ga.), junior Dominick Smith (Dayton, Ohio), and Brown placed third with a time of 3:27.86.

In the field events, freshman Dereck Fleury (Marysville, Ohio) was third in the weight throw with a heave of 15.23 meters, while teammate sophomore Jaylen Guevara (Sandusky, Ohio) placed seventh with a throw of 13.09. Fleury also placed in the shot put, finishing eighth with a throw of 13.21 meters.

Junior Tyler Fifer (Westerville, Ohio) had a solid finish in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump. His mark of 1.86 meters in the high jump was good enough for a fifth place finished while the mark of 6.31 meters in the long jump placed him second. Fifer grabbed a fist place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.61 meters.

Freshman Jerome Thomas also placed in the top-10 in the long jump, finished eighth with a jump of 6.08 meters.

After sitting out at the beginning of the season due to injury, junior Nick Green (Wapakoneta, Ohio) took home a second place finish in the shot put after throwing 15.50 meters.

For the women, junior Erin Miller (London, Ohio) ran a 5:55.34 to finish third in the mile while teammates sophomore Amber Willeman (Napoleon, Ohio) and freshman Morgan Bitzel (Hartville, Ohio) rounded out the top-10 scoring with an eighth and 10th place finish respectively. Willeman finished with a time of 6:03.93, and also finished ninth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:48.06 while Bitzel ran a 6:13.83 in the mile.

Freshman Erin Hamm (Lucas, Ohio) was ninth in the 60 meter hurdles after crossing the finish line with a time of 10.83 and sophomore Maryann Dike finished first in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.91.

In the 800 meter run, freshman Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) and sophomore Nicole Brown (Columbus, Ohio) each placed in the top-10. Kabicek finished fourth with a time of 2:24.92 while Brown placed 10th with a time of 2:32.55.

Sophomore Alex Hall (Westerville, Ohio) took home a first place finish in the 200 meter dash after running a 27.01 while freshman Amber Shreck (Crestline, Ohio) finished 10th with a time of 28.20.

ODU grabbed the first two spots in the 5000 meter run with junior Tara Walker (Lewis Center, Ohio) taking home the first place honors with a time of 18:42.79. Senior Mallory Kitts (Springfield, Ohio) came in second with a time of 19:31.77.

Sophomore Molly Priest (Wadsworth, Ohio) ran an 11:04.97 in the 3000 meter race to place seventh and the 4x400 meter relay team of Dike, Schreck, Hall, and freshman Kayla Statema (Warren, Ohio) placed second with a time of 4:10.69.

Junior Taylor Williams (Akron, Ohio) threw 15.77 meters in the weight throw for first place finish and was third in the shot put with a throw of 11.90 meters.

Ohio Dominican will compete next weekend in the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational.
