COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's indoor track and field teams took one step closer to the GLIAC Indoor Championships as the Panthers competed against a mixture of NCAA Division I, II, and III schools at Friday night's Ohio State Tune-Up.
In addition to the host Buckeyes, other schools at the meet included University of Cincinnati, University of Miami (Ohio), Austin Peay, and Ohio University, amongst a collection of schools from other divisions.
The men's squad had several top-10 performances, led by junior Tyler Fifer (Westerville, Ohio), who took first in the triple jump with a season best mark of 14.33 meters, and placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.95 meters. Fifer's triple jump mark has placed him on the NCAA DII provisional list.
Junior Jason Williams (Powell, Ohio) took ninth in the mile after running a season personal best 4:27.61 while classmate Aaron Johnson (Troy, Ohio) was sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.34, and making the provisional list along with Fifer.
Senior Nick Green (Wapakoneta, Ohio) placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.35 meters and teammate sophomore Dereck Fleury (Marysville, Ohio) was ninth with a mark of 13.90 meters. Fleury also placed ninth in the weight throw, tossing 15.46 meters.
On the women's side, sophomore Taylor Williams (Akron, Ohio) placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.86 meters and was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 12.29 meters.
Ohio Dominican will have one more indoor meet on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Kent State Tune-Up before heading to the GLIAC Indoor Championships on March 1-2.
