Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half, before rallying to defeat Bluefield State on the road by a final score of 82-77.
The Panthers (2-7, 0-4 GLIAC) recorded their first victory away from Alumni Hall in their final non-conference matchup of the season. Bluefield State (4-8) had won their previous three home contests before falling to ODU on Saturday night.
ODU received double figure scoring from five players, the first time since the contest at Lake Erie on February 1, 2014, the Panthers have had at least four players scoring 10 or more points in a game. The Black and Gold score at least 80 points for the third time this season, as they now hold a 2-1 record when doing so.
Junior Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring a team high 21 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. Weaver tied a career high in field goal makes with nine.
Freshman Ronnie Williams (Columbus, OH) set a career high in points and three point field goal makes. Williams scored 19 points, making four-of-six tries from behind the arc.
Freshman Shemar Waugh (Columbus, OH) and juniors Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) and Mark Minch (West Chester) each scored at least 10 points for ODU. To go along with his 10 points, Waugh led the Panthers in assists, dishing out five.
The Black and Gold shot 47.8 percent (29-61) from the field, making six three point attempts.
Both teams came out scoring as ODU and BSC were tied 40-40 after the first 20 minutes of play. The Big Blues jumped out to their largest lead of the game after an 18-4 run gave them a 65-52 lead with just under 11 minutes to play.
The Panthers continued to chip away over the next nine minutes and a three point basket from Nelson off an offensive rebound by Weaver gave ODU a 76-75 lead with 2:02 remaining. It was the first Panther lead since the 17:30 mark in the second half.
ODU used a layup and four free throws down the stretch to take the 82-77 victory. The Panthers held a 17-2 advantage in points off turnovers. ODU also held a 30-26 advantage in points in the paint, while outscoring the BSC bench 27-20.
The Black and Gold will be off for the rest of 2014 and will resume GLIAC play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015. ODU will look for their first conference win of the season as they host Michigan Tech inside Alumni Hall.
