WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican track and field teams kicked off the New Year with a meet at nearby Otterbein University Saturday afternoon. The men's squad placed fifth out of 12 while the women placed eighth out of 11.
In the field events, junior Tyler Fifer (Westerville, Ohio) placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters and third in the triple jump after leaping 13.91 meters. Sophomore Dereck Fleury (Marysville, Ohio) finished in the top-20 in the shot put with a throw of 12.79 meters.
Junior Jason Williams (Powell, Ohio) finished in the top-20 in the 3000 meter run, finishing with a time of 9:22.14 and sophomore Austin Kilgore (Pickerington, Ohio) finished 10th in the mile, running a 4:32.72.
Taking first place in the 60 meter hurdles was junior Aaron Johnson (Troy, Ohio), who finished with a time of 8.41.
Junior Ashton Hall (Huber Heights, Ohio) finished third in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:08.60 and teammate sophomore Matt Rosebrock (Napoleon, Ohio) was just edged out of the top-10, finishing 11th with a time of 1:11.06.
Three Panthers placed in the 60 meter dash as sophomore Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) finished third with a time of 6.99 and teammate junior Darrell Harley (Columbus, Ohio) not far behind in fourth with a time of 7.05. Sophomore Michael Hawkins (Columbus, Ohio) finished with a time of 7.47.
Sophomore Austin Kilgore (Pickerington, Ohio) placed in the top-10 after posting a time of 4:32.72 in the mile, while junior Aaron Johnson (Troy, Ohio) finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.41.
Junior Ashton Hall (Huber Heights, Ohio) finished third in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:08.00 while Rosebrock had a personal best time of 1:11.06.
A trio of Panthers placed in the 60 meter dash, with freshman Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) placing third with a time of 6.99. Junior Darrell Hall (Columbus, Ohio) placed fourth with a time of 7.05 and sophomore Michael Hawkins (Columbus, Ohio) finished with a time of 7.47.
Junior Dominick Smith (Dayton, Ohio) cracked the top-five in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:04.10 for a fourth place finish.
A pair of freshman scored in the 5000 meter run with Patrick Ferguson (Austintown, Ohio) placing fourth with a time of 16:32.29 and Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio) finishing eighth with a time of 17:13.63.
On the women's side, sophomore Alex Hall (Westerville, Ohio) finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 4.74 meters. Hall also finished 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27:83.
Freshman Erin Hamm (Lucas, Ohio) placed eighth in the pole vault, finishing with a mark of 2.43 meters. Junior Taylor Williams (Akron, Ohio) threw 15.27 meters for a fourth place finish in the weight throw.
Freshman Amber Schreck (Crestline, Ohio) posted her first top-10 finish after running a 1:04.92 in the 400 meter dash. Fellow freshman Kayla Statema (Warren, Ohio) finished 10th in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:26.73.
Sophomore Maryann Dike captured third place in the 60 meter dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 7.97, while sophomore Nicole Brown (Columbus, Ohio) placed seventh in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33.19.
Lewis Center, Ohio natives Tara Walker and Lindsay Davis each placed in the top-10 for the Panthers in the 3000 meter run. Walker ran a 19:03.58 for a fifth place finish while Davis captured a 10th place finish with a time of 21:12.71.
The 4x400 team of Dike, Schreck, Statema, and freshman Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) finished fifth with a time of 4:23.35.
Ohio Dominican will return to action next Friday at the Findlay Classic.
