Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season with a 2-0 setback to Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
USI's Gabriella Korte found Madi Vellky in the 28 minute of the first period to give the Screaming Eagles the early 1-0 advantage. A little over six minutes later, Leslie Schapker found the feet of Natalie Geiger as Southern Indiana extended the lead to 2-0 at the half.
Southern Indiana outshot the Panthers 6-0 in the first half but was even on corner kicks with two apiece.
ODU's offense managed five shots in the second half but could not overcome the two goal deficit despite numerous opportunities.
The Screaming Eagles outshot the Panthers 14-5.
On the day, junior goal keeper Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) recorded four saves and faced six shots on goal.
"Today was a tall order after a short turn around from our overtime match Thursday night," said head coach Jonathan Meade. "USI is a solid team and we needed to bring our best today and it just wasn't there. It was a good learning experience and we look forward to getting back to work on Monday."
The Panthers return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 10 to host Cedarville for ODU's home opener.
