Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – A late second half surge by the Ferris State offense was too much for the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team to handle, and the Panthers fell 80-68 to the Bulldogs in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup in Alumni Hall.
Sophomore Trent Weaver (Hilliard, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers (3-4; 1-2 GLIAC), posting his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomores Chad Nelson (Columbus, Ohio) and Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) added 12 points respectively while senior Brandon Carr (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 11 points off the bench.
ODU closed the game shooting 34.7 percent from the floor (25-of-72) and 15.4 percent from long range (2-of-13). The Panthers were 16-of-19 at the charity stripe (84.2 percent).
Ferris State (3-3; 3-0 GLIAC) connected on 47.8 percent from the floor (32-of-67).
Ohio Dominican won the battle on the boards, 46-44, but committed 10 turnovers to just eight by Ferris State.
The Bulldogs were paced by Drew Lehman with 21 points.
The first eight minutes proved to be a battle as neither team was able to take control of the game. By the under-10 media timeout, Ohio Dominican held on to a slim 25-21 lead.
The Panthers opened up a 27-24 lead following a jumper from Minch coming out of the under-five media timeout. A layup by Weaver gave the Panthers a 34-27 lead with 4:21 to go in the half, but Ferris State would answer with a 6-4 run to close the half down five 38-33.
The second half opened with neither team able to gain a sizable advantage. At the 12:55 mark the Bulldogs clung to a 49-48 lead. From there, the fast-paced offense of Ferris State was too much for the Panthers to handle, losing by a final margin of 12, 80-68.
Ohio Dominican will next host Grand Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 17 for a GLIAC matchup before the Panther's players head home on holiday break.
