COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio Dominican women's soccer team continues their road schedule Friday, Sep. 21 and Sunday, Sep. 23 against the Tiffin Dragons (2-2-1) and the Findlay Oilers (0-3-1) after taking a tough loss against No. 3 Grand Valley State last week.
About the Panthers:
While being on the road for the last three games, the Panthers (4-2-0) have been quite solid taking two of the last three matches. With four days to practice since the loss to Grand Valley State, the Panthers look to bounce back to earn a strong road record.
Against the Ferris State Bulldogs, freshman Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) earned her third straight score in three games in the final minute of the first half after she chipped the ball off of a near side box corner kick by Erin Bane (Chillicothe, Ohio).
Jennifer Horton (Johnstown, Ohio) is looking to tally another goal on her season as she has also scored three goals. Her 56th minute screamer off of senior Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio) put the Panthers up 2-0 against the Bulldogs and should have her confidence high going into the match up with Tiffin.
Sophomore Broegan Sautter (Bellville, Ohio) buried her first goal of the season off a corner kick in the 60th minute to extend the lead to the final score of 3-0.
Against Grand Valley State Laura Clark (Meeper, Michigan) had a season high of 11 saves but let two slip by off of two tough shots in the 10th and 86th minute. Although the Panthers showed good poise throughout the match, the No. 3 ranked Lakers were too tough for the Panthers on the road and the final score was made 2-0.
Coming off a solid win and one tough loss, the Panthers should come out with confidence against Tiffin tomorrow at 4 p.m.
About the Dragons:
The Dragons are 1-0-1 in conference play this season and an overall record of 2-2-1, look to extend their league record into the positive category tomorrow against the Panthers.
With 11 seniors on the team this year Tiffin is looking to take advantage of the young ODU squad. In the 2-2 tie with Findlay, things looked bad as the Dragons trailed 2-0 but at the 58:50 mark, senior Ashley Davis threaded through traffic and found freshman Giulianne Domingues. She blasted the ball into the twine to make it 2-1. With 17:18 to go, freshman Olivia Haskin hit a shot that hit the post. Davis collected the rebound and put it in to tie it all up.
On Tuesday, September 18, the Dragons lost 1-0 to Ursuline at UC Soccer Field. Tiffin had 13 shots, six on goal, eight corner kicks in the loss.
About the Oilers:
Last week, the Oilers lost a 1-0 battle to Urbana. Urbana took the lead at the 43-minute mark of the first half on a 30-yard blast that was placed perfectly in the top left corner of the net. Despite a valiant effort in the second half, the Oilers were unable to find the equalizer. Findlay recorded 11 shots in the game, nine coming in the second half, and had nine corner kicks.
Findlay battled to a 2-2 draw against Tiffin last week in Tiffin, Ohio. The Oilers were the first to strike when Emily Beddoes scored her off an assist from Brittany Guglielmi at the 13-minute mark. It wasn't until the second half, at the 55-minute mark when Findlay would make the score 2-0 off a Guglielmi goal assisted by Ashley Davis. However, Tiffin would make a dramatic comeback scoring at the 58 and 72-minute mark to tie the game. After two overtime periods, the match ended at a 2-2 tie despite Oilers 26-18 shot advantage.
The Series:
Last year, the Panthers and Dragons split a pair of regular season games. The Dragons shutout the Panthers game one 3-0 on Panther field in late September, however, the Panthers rebounded with a 2-0 victory at Tiffin almost a month later on October 13.
Against the Oilers last season, the Panthers suffered a 3-1 setback in Findlay, Ohio on September 25. ODU responded though on October 16, topping the Oilers 1-0.
