ODU Women's Soccer Heads to Saginaw for GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals

UPDATE: The GLIAC conference tournament quarterfinal match has been postponed until Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2:00 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team will host the quarterfinal round for the GLIAC Tournament, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 30. The sixth-seeded Panthers will take on third-seeded Saginaw Valley at 2:00 p.m.

About the Panthers:

ODU concluded the regular season with an overall record of 10-5-3 and a conference record of 6-4-3 after falling 1-0 to GLIAC rival Ashland in their last regular season match on Saturday, Oct. 27.

With the score remaining 0-0 going into half, the Eagles held a 6-4 advantage in shots.

After the break, the Eagles' Alexandra Kovarik broke the tie at the 68:34 mark after she chipped the ball into the back left corner of the net for her third goal of the season, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers couldn't overcome the one goal deficit as the Eagles held on for the 1-0 win.

Ashland outshot the Panthers 12-10, which included three shots on goal.

Sophomore goalie Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) grabbed three saves in the loss.

About the Cardinals:

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Tiffin University on October 28.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Andrea Grove (Farmington, Mich.) found the back of the net off a pass from Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.) for her first goal of the season. The assist was Porter's GLIAC-leading 10th of the season.

Tiffin came out of the intermission firing on all cylinders as they tied up the match at just six minutes into the second half with an exceptional crossing pass inside the box.

Both teams were unable to capitalize on opportunities in regulation as the contest headed into a pair of overtime sessions. The Dragons put the game away with a score in the 103rd minute of double OT for the 2-1 victory.

The Series:
Tuesday's quarterfinal will be the second matchup of the season and fourth since 2010 that ODU and SVSU have met on the field. The Panthers hold a 2-1 record in the series, including a 0-1 mark this year.
