COLUMBUS, Ohio- ODU's women soccer team will end its regular season when Ashland comes to Panther Field Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 pm. The team improved their record to 10-4-3 (6-3-3 GLIAC) with their shutout victory over Lake Erie 4-0. Ohio Dominican looks to close the season out with three straight wins and no losses in seven games.
About the Panthers:
The Panthers remained red hot as they cruised to a victory over Lake Erie with their 11th shutout of this season in their annual senior day game.
ODU was ready from the opening kick, as senior Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio) got the offense started nailing a penalty kick, sending it to the right side of the goal for her first penalty kick of the season.
In the 41st minute, freshman Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) scored a goal off the assist from fellow freshman Amanda Fowler (Mansfield, Ohio). ODU did not allow the Storm to get off a kick as they outshot Lake Erie 14-0.
After halftime, Ohio Dominican added two more goals on the board, in the 53rd and 87th minute as sophomore Jordan Mazzi (Galena, Ohio) scored her fifth goal of the year off a rebound to go up 3-0. Junior Megan Augusta (Lyndhurst, Ohio) knocked in a shot from 10 yards out off the pass from Fowler to cap off the day for the Panthers.
The defense held the Storm to only four total shots while racking up 21 of their own, 11 on goal.
About the Eagles:
Ashland comes into this match off a 2-2 tie with Notre Dame (OH), giving the Eagles a record of 6-10-1 (5-6-1 GLIAC).
Ashland used a pair of second-half goals to force overtime. The Eagles used a 20-1 shot advantage in the second-half and overtime to climb back into the game.
Notre Dame took the lead in the 21st minute when Becky Mielnik assisted Alex DeFilippo's goal to go up 1-0. DeFilippo then assisted the second goal at 32:12, scored by Lauren Acker to give the Eagles a 2-0 deficit at halftime.
After halftime, the Eagles looked like a new team. Ashland cut into the lead when freshman Alexandra Kovarik scored a goal at 45:27 that was assisted by classmate Allison Richards. Richards would also tie the game up at the 78:27 mark off the assist from Carly Joliat.
During the two overtime periods, the Eagles sent seven shots at goal, continuously coming up short.
About the Series:
Since 2010, the Panthers and Eagles have squared off six times, where ODU has not allowed a goal to the Eagles. The Panthers have a record of 4-0-2 in the meetings since 2010.
