COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team returns to Panther Field after a two-game trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Panthers walked away with a 1-0-1 record against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.
About the Panthers:
On Friday, ODU walked away with a 2-0 victory over Northern Michigan. Senior Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, Ohio) connected to the right side of the net for the first goal of the game and her fifth on the season in the 14th minute of the game.
Scoring her seventh goal of the season, freshman Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) knocked in the second goal of the game in the 86th minute from two feet outside the net for a Panther 2-0 lead. Pratt has scored a goal in the last four games she has played.
Sophomore goalie Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) stopped six shots and improved to a 7-4-2 record.
On Sunday, the Panthers faced top team Michigan Tech and battled them to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
Michigan Tech had 11 shots on goal, but Clark saved all 11 shots for the Panthers and stopped two penalty kicks the Huskies attempted.
With the draw, Clark recorded her ninth shutout, tying her with the all-time shutout record.
About the Falcons:
Notre Dame couldn't battle its way out of a losing streak at Northwood (Mich.) on Friday, now extending to four games.
The host Timberwolves scored a first-half goal and then kept a lid on their goal for the balance of play in the 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt at Dean Field on the campus of Northwood University.
Goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky had six saves for the Falcons, who were playing Northwood for the first time in program history.
Friday's game was even through the first 37 minutes. In the 38th minute, the Timberwolves' Megan Murdoch scored when an Amanda Watson through-ball down the middle of the field set her up to beat Kristy Kolschetzky on a 10-yarder into the right side of the goal. That would be the only netfinder of the first frame, a period that saw Northwood outshoot Notre Dame, 8-4.
In the second half, the Falcons didn't manage a shot until 13 minutes in when a Sabrina Mottershead effort was turned away by a Northwood defender. The Timberwolves just missed on doubling their lead at 77:54 when an Alyssa Tomassi shot pinged off the post. Regardless of the margin, Northwood defended it throughout to preserve the 1-0 win.
The Falcons fell to Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) in on Sunday afternoon by the score of 1-0.
Notre Dame knotted Sunday's proceedings with a Lauren Acker penalty kick in the 66th minute of play, but Saginaw Valley counterpunched less than a minute later, eventually sending the host Cardinals to their third straight victory.
The Cardinals opened the match's scoring in the 30th minute when sophomore midfielder Annie Aubrey found the back of the net for a team-high seventh time this season. Charley Porter assisted on the goal, Aubrey's fourth over SVSU's last three games. The score came on a cross from the right side; Aubrey nodded it past goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky for the 1-0 Cardinal lead.
Acker's penalty kick at 65:07 tied things at 1-1. But Charley Porter answered with a go-ahead second Saginaw Valley goal at 66:50. Porter's shot from just inside the attacking half sailed over Kolschetzky's reach and into the net to lift the Cardinals to the 2-1 lead.
About the Series:
These two teams first met in 2000, where the Panthers walked away with a 1-0 win on Panther Field. Since then, the Panthers are 2-1-1 against the Falcons.
