COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team continues conference play this weekend, wrapping up their stretch of home games at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 as ODU clashes with No. 18 Ashland in a rematch of last year's GLIAC Championship, followed by a trip to Lake Erie for its first road game of the year at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.

About the Panthers:
ODU dropped its first game of the young season on Friday as Davenport (Mich.) handed the Panthers a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in overtime. After a physical, scoreless first half, DU opened the scoring just 1:32 into the second as an unlucky foul in the box allowed Jai Maw to connect on a penalty kick. Played continued back-and-forth until ODU finally broke through in the 86th minute as transfer Colby Catlett (Jr./Hilliard, OH) scored his first goal with the Panthers with a header off a perfect corner from Justin Wheeler (Jr./Gahanna, OH).
Celebration quickly became heartache as Davenport scored the golden goal 2:31 into the first overtime off a corner kick header of their own.
After a scoreless 66 minutes of play, Sunday's GLIAC opener against Saginaw Valley State was cancelled due to lengthy periods of lightning. Word on whether the game will be finished when ODU heads to SVSU in early October or cancelled entirely has not yet been determined.
About the Eagles:
Ashland went 1-1-1 in their first week of GLIAC play. The No. 18 Eagles and Dragons, winners of the last six combined GLIAC regular season and tournament championships, played to a scoreless draw on Friday. On Sunday, the Eagles put away two first-half goals as Zaan Janse and J.P. Lytle finished off crosses from Kenny Hewitt. Patrick Pearson put the game away with a tap-in goal off a pass from Hewitt in the 88th minute. Hewitt's three assists moved him into second place on AU's all-time list with 21 for his career. This past Wednesday, the Eagles were stunned at home as Lake Erie became the first conference team in nearly two years to win at Ferguson Field, hanging a 2-0 shutout against them.
About the Storm:
Lake Erie sits 2-1-0 and at the top of the GLIAC, as it recently knocked off No. 18 Ashland, 2-0, on the road on Wednesday. The Storm picked up its first win as a member of the conference against Findlay last Friday, and put a scare into preseason favorite Tiffin, falling 1-0 on Sunday. At 3-2-0 overall, the Storm has already won more games in their first season under head coach Davie Carmichael than last year. In the 28th minute against the Eagles, LEC got a 3-on-2 run out for the first score and added an insurance goal in the 73th minute for the shocking upset. The Storm got on the board Friday as a throw-in from sophomore transfer Stewart Bath was headed home by fellow sophomore transfer James Grogan. In the 50th minute, sophomore midfielder Nathan Bias scored his third goal in as many games as junior transfer Randy Danso found him with a cross.
The Series:
Friday marks the 15th all-time meeting between ODU and Ashland with the Eagles holding a decisive 1-10-3 advantage in the series. The teams met three times last year with AU taking both regular season games by the finals of 2-0 before squaring off in the best GLIAC Championship in history with the Eagles claiming the title 6-5 in a penalty kick shootout. The Panthers and Storm will be meeting for the fifth time, while ODU boasts a perfect 4-0-0 mark in the series, including 2-1 and 3-1 wins last season.
