About the Panthers:
The Panthers picked up a key regional win Tuesday evening as ODU collected their second shutout of the year with a 3-0 win over former AMC foe Urbana at Panther Field.
Urbana came out as the aggressor over the game's opening 10 minutes, but the Panthers were able to grab the initial momentum and take the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute as Darko gathered a loose ball in front of the net and tallied his sixth score of the year with a straight-on 14-yard look.
Play swung back-and-forth over the remainder of the first half and into the second before junior Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) beat the keeper to the far, lower 90 with a 17 yard blast from the right wing off a cross from sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH) at the 67:14 mark.
Just over 14 minutes later, the Hilliard tandem hooked up again as Campbell, from the far right wing, found a streaking Edler who slipped a straight-on shot to the right of the keeper from nine yards deep for his fourth score of the season and second multi-goal game of his career. The two scores matched his effort at Tiffin back on Oct. 13 when he tallied goals in both the first and second halves of ODU's 2-2 draw with the Dragons.
Jones improved his record to 3-1-1 in goal and collected the second shutout of his young career, swiping three shots.
About the Cavaliers:
Walsh fell in its second straight contest on Thursday, this time by a 2-1 double overtime decision at the hands of rival Malone. Earlier in the week, the Cavaliers dropped its home finale, falling to 2-1 to Notre Dame (Ohio). The regular season AMC Champions ran the table in conference play to clinch their first championship since 1994. With the lone score on Thursday, Ben Truax moved into first all-time with 119 career points at Walsh, surpassing the record of 118 set between 1997 and 2000. Truaz leads the team with 20 goals and 45 points this year and is one of six Cavaliers to tally 11 or more points.
The Series:
Sunday's game marks the 27th time the Panthers and Cavaliers will meet on the pitch with Walsh holding a 17-9-0 advantage in the overall series. In their last meeting back in October of 2009, the Cavaliers hung a 3-0 shutout at home on ODU. The loss marks the largest shutout deficit the Panthers have received over the last seven seasons.
Did You Know?:
-- With Tuesday's game-winner against Urbana, Felix Darko moved into sole possession of fifth place on ODU's all-time career goals list with 25. He also ranks fifth with 63 career points.
-- The Panthers' five losses this season have all come by a one-goal margin, including three in overtime. The last time ODU lost by more than one score was a 2-0 road setback to No. 16 Ashland back in October of 2010.
