ODU Welcomes Former AMC foe Urbana to Panther Field Tonight

Full PDF Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team has has a quick turnaround as it is back home this Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. for the first of three non-conference games to close the regular season, beginning with former AMC foe, Urbana.

Live Video/Stats:
Live video of Tuesday's game is available at http://www.pressboxproductions.net/index.html. Live stats are also available through http://livestats.prestosports.com/ohiodominican/.

About the Panthers:
ODU closed the conference portion of its regular season schedule with a 1-1-0 record this past week as the Panthers fell at Ashland 2-1 on a wintry Thursday evening, before taking down Lake Erie 3-2 at home on Sunday afternoon to secure the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament.

Faced with their largest halftime deficit of the year on Thursday as the Eagles scored off a pair of corners, ODU put forth a valiant effort down the stretch as junior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, OH) scored off a 30-yard free kick in the 73rd minute, but it was not enough as AU spoiled the Panthers title hopes.

Needing a win against the Storm to ensure a postseason bid, ODU juniors Weddle, Colby Catlett (Hilliard, OH) and Justin Wheeler (Gahanna, OH) tallied three goals in a 16-minute stretch of the second half and hung on in the closing minutes for the 3-2 result.

Catlett currently leads the GLIAC in both goals (9) and points (20), while Wheeler's third score of the season and third game-winner moved him into a tie for first atop the conference.

About the Blue Knights:
The Blue Knights are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, including two at home in overtime to GLIAC foes Tiffin and Ashland, and have lost their last three road contests, dating back to Sept. 25. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half to the Eagles on Senior Day, Ed Willoughby tied the game in the 51st minute with his second goal of the season and 15 minutes later, the Blue Knights charged ahead on freshman Brandon Thompson's first collegiate goal. Ashland answered with a corner kick goal in the 74th minute, sending the game into overtime where the Eagles earned the win on a controversial penalty kick on a cross into the box. Sophomore Tyler Wason leads the Blue Knights with nine scores, four assists and 22 points.

The Series:
Since their first meeting in 2009, ODU and Urbana have squared off eleven times prior to Tuesday's meeting with the Panthers holding an impressive 9-1-1 lead in the overall series. After falling at home in 2009, ODU defeated the Blue Knights 2-1 on the road last year as Pat McGrath and Felix Darko notched scores for the Panthers.

Did You Know?:
-- The first half scores by Ashland marked the first time this year ODU has allowed more than one goal in the first half.
-- The Panthers' five losses this season have all come by a one-goal margin, including three in overtime. The last time ODU lost by more than one score was a 2-0 road setback to No. 16 Ashland back in October of 2010.
-- With eight overtimes this season, including seven in the last 11 games, the Panthers have already surpassed the program's single-season record for overtime games of five and are just three shy of matching the Division II national record of 11 set by Fort Lewis back in 2000.
