COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team hosted former AMC rival and current NCAA Division II member Urbana University in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Frank Damian Field in Panther Valley. The Panthers rolled in game one to a decisive 12-5 win, but went cold in game two falling 4-1.
ODU (13-22) grabbed an early 8-0 lead in game one, sending four runners across the plate in the first inning and two more in both the second and third. The score remained unchanged until the top of the sixth as the Blue Knights (15-18) erupted for five runs to trim the deficit to three. The Panthers tacked on four insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth for the final tally of 12-5.
J.T. Feldkamp (Jr./Lorain, OH) led the Panthers 15-hit attack going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Designated hitter Germaine McAlpine (Jr./Canton, OH) went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the victory.
Freshman starter Drew McGlone (Circleville, OH; pictured) posted the win on the hill after surrendering five earned runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Kyle Gore (Jr./Solon, OH) shut down Urbana as he retired the final four batters of the game for ODU.
In game two, ODU was able to answer the Blue Knights' early score in the second with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. However, another Urbana run in the third and two more in the fourth proved too much for the Panthers to overcome as they fell 4-1, snapping a three-game win streak.
Jose Rosa (Fr./Toa Baja, PR) suffered the setback on the rubber as he gave up four earned runs on four hits in three innings of work. With the loss, Rosa drops his record to 1-1 on the year.
Eian Banks (Sr./Delaware, OH) went 2-for-2 with the only run scored in the loss. ODU was held to just six hits in the nightcap as Urbana's Shane Pfouts went the distance in the win.
ODU will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Malone University in Canton, Ohio on Wednesday for another non-conference doubleheader. First pitch between the Panthers and Pioneers is slated for 4 p.m.
