Lone 1st Half Goal Dooms Panthers
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars shutout the visiting Ohio Dominican Panthers on Friday afternoon, 1-0. MVNU scored the games lone goal midway through the opening half to earn the win.
The Cougars scored on their only shot on goal in the 26th minute on a shot from Chris Allen assisted by Cody Snouffer. The Panthers earned three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes but consistently turned away as they headed to the half time break down 1-0.
ODU looked to play catch-up in the second half but the Cougar goalkeeper Alex Stout matched all Panther attempts as he finished the afternoon with seven crucial saves. The Panther defense held strong in the second stanza as they held the host Cougars without a score but it wasn't enough as MVNU claimed the non-conference win.
Tyler Gleason (Jr., Grove City, OH) and Michael Prout (Fr., Bexley, OH) combined for two saves in the road loss.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, September 22nd as they will host the University of Saint Francis (IN) at Panther Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
