COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team ended a two game losing streak in dominating fashion on Friday evening in Alumni Hall with a 93-61 point victory over the Midway College Eagles as part of the third annual Ohio Dominican Classic. The Panthers trailed in the opening minutes, but quickly recovered to post the win and even up their season record at 4-4.
The Eagles (3-7) got out to an early 5-4 lead at the 16:50 mark, but the Panthers quickly answered and stormed to a 39-25 halftime lead behind the hot shooting of Katy Rasor (So./Grove City, OH). Rasor finished the half with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
The second half proved to be much of the same as the Eagles could not cut the deficit any closer. ODU carried over their momentum from the first half, scoring 54 points in the second stanza, shooting a sizzling 19-of-34 (55.9 percent) from the field. The 54 points is a season high for points scored in a half.
Tracy Snider (So./Lancaster, OH) led all Panthers with 22 points, going 4-of-5 from behind the arc and 8-of-12 overall. Rasor continued to knock down shots, finishing with 20. Melissa Hersey (Jr./Cincinnati, OH) and Tenia Scarver (Fr./Xenia, OH) finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Hersey also had her first double-double of the season with a game high 10 rebounds and was two assists shy of a rare triple-double.
Midway was led by Whitney Odom who finished with a team high 12 points in 21 minutes of action.
In the second game of the ODU Classic, UC-Clermont (5-2) fell convincingly to Lake Erie College 88-40. Lake Erie (4-4) was paced by Renese Ames, who came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points. Clermont was led by Dawn Rapp who finished with 11 points in the loss.
The women will wrap up the ODU Classic on Saturday, December 5th as they take on UC-Clermont in the second game. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. Midway College will take on Lake Erie College in the first game at 1:00 p.m.
