Panthers Fall in Final Regular Season Road Trip at Malone, 58-47

CANTON, OH - The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team played their final regular-season road game last night at Malone University's Osborne Hall. The 21-6 (2nd in conference) Malone Pioneers secured a 58-47 victory over the 12-15 (tied for 8th in conference) Panthers.

Leading the way for Ohio Dominican, senior Gabby Stare recorded 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Brynn Mullet and Macy Chapman each contributed 10 points, with Mullet shooting 3-9 from beyond the arc and Chapman going 1-2 from deep and a perfect 3-3 at the free-throw line. All three played over 30 minutes in the contest.

The game started with both teams struggling offensively. Ohio Dominican shot 25% (4-16) from the field, while Malone posted a slightly better 26.67% (4-15). From three-point range, Malone edged out ODU, shooting 28.57% (2-7) compared to ODU's 25% (2-8). The Pioneers took a narrow 13-10 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw a slight improvement for ODU, shooting 28.57% (4-14) from the field but struggling from beyond the arc at 16.67% (1-6). Meanwhile, Malone capitalized on its opportunities, limiting ODU to just nine points while scoring 16 of their own. The Pioneers shot 42.86% from the field and 42.96% from three, heading into halftime with a comfortable 29-19 advantage.

Coming out of the break, Ohio Dominican found a better rhythm offensively, shooting 41.67% (5-12) from the field, though they made just one of three attempts from deep. Malone countered with 35.71% shooting and a 28.57% (2-7) mark from three. Despite ODU's improvement, Malone edged them out 12-11 in the quarter, maintaining a 41-30 lead heading into the fourth.

In the final frame, both teams matched each other with 17 points. ODU shot 38.46% from the field, while Malone finished at 41.67%. Both teams found more success from three, with Malone hitting 3-6 and ODU making 3-7. At the free-throw line, both squads shot an impressive 80%. However, Malone's early lead proved too much to overcome, securing their 21st win of the season with a 58-47 final.

As the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season concludes this weekend, Ohio Dominican's final game will be crucial for postseason seeding, with only eight of the 13 teams advancing to the tournament.

The Panthers will host Cedarville in Alumni Hall for Senior Day tomorrow, with tip-off set for 1 PM.
