Shorter's 5K Record Highlights Day at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican Panthers indoor track and field team made one of their four trips to Ashland this season while competing at the Ashland Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 25) afternoon.

While competing against some of their conference foes at the Niss Athletic Center, the Panthers had one school record fall, notched six performances worthy of the top ten in the record books and 15 personal records.

2nd Place Finishes
  • Peyton Proffitt: 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1 ½ inches) for her second best mark of the second – 2nd highest mark in program history
  • Merrick Shorter: School record 15:13.63 in the 5000 meters, breaking the record by over seven seconds
4th Place Finishes
  • Virtner Crews III: 6.89 seconds in the 60 meter finals (tying a PR and 3rd fastest time in program history), improving from 6.95 seconds in the prelims
  • Aboubacar Soumahoro: PR of 1.94 meters in the high jump (8th best mark in program history)
Other Finishes
  • Naomi Haring: 11th place in the 300 meters with the 3rd best time in program history (47.14 seconds) & PR for the 200 meters (29.93 seconds) in 48th place
  • Isaac Eugene: 200 meter PR of 22.39 seconds in 11th place & 13th place in the 400 meters with a PR of 50.23 seconds
  • Eayuel Gebrtsadik: 14th place for the mile with a 4:25.55 time (8th fastest time in the program record books) & PR of 1:59.08 for the 800 meters in 16th place
  • Owen Wilhelm: 14th place in the high jump with a 1.79 meter mark (season-best)
  • Women's 4x400 Relay (Ambos, Dulle, Shyla Pemberton, Reed): 15th place with a time of 4:43.45
  • Men's 4x400 Relay (Yagouba Barry, Gebrtsadik, Shorter): 15th place with a time of 3:39.41
  • Faith Yancey: 16th in the 60 meter prelims with a 8.14 second time & 16th for the 200 meter dash with a PR of 26.57
  • Eva Dulle: 17th place in the mile with a PR of 5:42.10 & another PR for the 800 meters of 2:36.00, finishing 33rd place
  • Ismael Obas: Season-best 7.10 seconds prelims for 18th place & 37thplace in 200 meters with a 23.35 second time
  • Virtner Crews III: 21st place in the 200 meters with a 22.73 second PR
  • Edward Devaney: PR of  4:52.88 in 28th place for the mile run
  • Aileen Castillo: 29th place in the mile with a 6:22.17 time (2nd best time of the season)
  • Joseph Chandler: 30th in the 60 meters, running a 7.26 second time in prelims & 200 meter PR of 23.88 seconds (44th place)
  • Blake Murgatroyd: 36th place in the 3000 meters with a PR of 9:22.33
  • Felix Prewitt: 37th place in the 60 meters with a 7.36 second prelims time & 24.71 seconds for the 200 meters (season-debut)
  • Anna Blackstone: 38th place, ran a 12:18.04 in the 3000 meters
  • Jamarion Hall: 800 meter PR of 2:09.44 in 39th placec
  • Nikane Ambos: 41st in the 60 meter prelims at 8.61 seconds
  • Gabrielle Reed: 2:45.70 in the 800 meters (41st place)
  • Aboubacar Soumahoro: 24th place in the 60 meter hurdles with a 9.32 second prelim time & PR in the 200 meters with 24.18 seconds, 49th place
This Friday (Jan. 31), the Panthers will compete in the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Invitational.
