CANTON, Ohio - In the final event before the conference championships next week, the Ohio Dominican Panthers women's golf team competed in the Walsh Cavalier Classic on Monday (April 15) and Tuesday (April 16).
The team shot their fifth best round of the season in round two (308) after they scored 322 in round one. The Panthers finished fourth of seven teams with a 36-hole total of 630.
Sydney Devore (New Philadelphia, Ohio) finished as the best Panther in a fifth place tie. She had a first round score of 79 before shooting a 2-over 74 in the second round. Devore totaled 153 (+9) with two birdies and 23 pars.
Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio) and
Ana Reed (Denton, Texas) were tied in eighth place with a 157 (+13). Dillon improved from a first round 83 to a 2-over 74 in the second round. Reed tied her career low with a 77 first round and finished with a career-best for the tournament. Reed led ODU with 24 pars while Dillon had the most birdies with five.
Caroline Tragesser (Murrysville, Pennsylvania) was tied for 15th place on a pair of rounds shooting 83 and 80 for a total of 163 (+19). She made 17 pars for the duration of the tournament.
Meg Saffell (Somerset, Ohio) had a total of 171 (+27) to tie for 30th place. Saffell scored 91 in her first round and followed it up with an 80 for the second round. She tallied 13 pars and three birdies overall.
Ellyn Deibel (Lancaster, Ohio), as the individual, tied her career-low with a first round of 79. With an 82 in round two, she secured her best 36-hole score with a 161 (+17) in a 12th place tie with 21 pars.
The Panthers will play in Owensboro, Kentucky for the 2024 Great Midwest Women's Golf Championships on Thursday (April 25) and Friday (April 26).
