Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers baseball team began the month of April on the road for the first true road games since the end of February. ODU traveled to Ashland on Sunday (April 2) to play in the final interdivisional series before the Panthers go into South Division play.
Ohio Dominican fell 9-2 and 4-3 to the Ashland Eagles on the first day of the series.
GAME ONE
Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) started the fourth inning with a solo blast to left field for his fourth homer of the season. Michael Knapp (Elyria, Ohio) did the same thing one inning later, hitting his first blast of the year.
The Eagles used four runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh for a 9-2 win in the opener.
Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) reached base three times with two base knocks in the opener. After walking in the second, Marshall singled in the fourth and sixth frames. Devan Nail (Elyria, Ohio) doubled in his first appearance at third base for the season.
GAME TWO
Ashland started the scoring in the second game with single runs in the second and fourth innings.
A three-spot by ODU in the sixth inning gave the Panthers the lead. Jordan Daniels (Blacklick, Ohio) singled and stole second base. Mathey singled home Daniels prior to a pitching change. Marshall doubled Mathey to third as the Panthers put two runners in scoring position. Michael O'Callaghan (Morrow, Ohio) plated Mathey with a sacrifice fly. Knapp put ODU ahead with a RBI single to left field.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Ashland took the 4-3 lead with two runs scored.
Marshall had another two-hit contest with a walk while Mathey and Knapp drove in runs for the second straight game. Spencer Tammaro (New Albany, Ohio) walked twice in his first start of the season.
The series picks up on Monday (April 3) at 12:00 PM following a shift from the weather over the weekend.
