MASON, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (20-29) baseball team took to the field twice on Thursday (May 7) to battle in Pool B at the 2026 Great Midwest Baseball Championship. 

Ohio Dominican kept their hopes alive with a 9-1 win over the #5 seed Cedarville Yellow Jackets (23-27) but then fell to the top seeded Ashland Eagles (37-15).

May 7, 2026 vs. #5 Cedarville (W, 9-1)

• Ohio Dominican started the scoring in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of some early walks. Mason Kurtz walked with one out before Sam Battles singled through the right side. A fielder's choice erased Battles while putting Grant Horne on base. Horne stole second with Carson Willis walking to load the bases. Will Marrero singled home two runners with a base hit to center field. Cedarville went to the bullpen for a reliever and walked the first batter he faced, Steven Chapman. Braden Reed followed with a two-run single to center field. ODU led 4-0 after two innings.
• One inning later, the Panthers added on with two hits and an error. Mason Hess and Kurtz both singled and an error by the Cedarville left fielder allowed Hess to score for a 5-0 lead. 
• Cedarville scored one run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly. 
• Kurtz rounded the bases in the 5th inning to score the sixth run for ODU. He opened the inning with a hit by pitch before stealing second. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third base and a wild pitch scored home. 
• ODU added on two runs in the eighth inning. Marrero walked as he was lifted for a pinch runner, Jack Lion. Lion moved up on a wild pitch and got to third on a strikeout. Reed plated his third run of the day with a RBI single to center field. Tryce Chaffin had a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error with Reed going to third base. Hess scored Reed with a sacrifice fly to center field. 
• In the ninth inning, ODU closed the scoring. Horne doubled with one out and a groundout got him to third base. Lion reached on an RBI infield single as Horne scored for the 9-1 win. 
• Reed had two hits with three RBI in his final game. Chaffin and Battles notched two hits in the bottom of the order. Chapman walked three times. 
• On the mound, Chapman (W, 2-5) went the distance with a nine-inning complete game, scattering one run on three hits. 

May 7, 2026 vs. #1 Ashland (L, 8-0)

• Ashland started the game with six runs in the first inning, chasing the ODU starter, Jaxson Stried from the game. 
• The Eagles added a single run in the third and fifth innings, making it 8-0. 
• Chapman doubled for his lone hit of the game. Marrero and Chaffin each singled as the Panthers had three hits. 
• Stried (L, 0-7) allowed five runs on four hits in 0.2 innings. Jared Hoersten pitched 2.1 innings of two-run ball while Landon Ringhiser tossed four innings of one run allowed. Andrew Holcomb struck out two in his scoreless inning.
