Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tennessee - In the adjusted slate in the Music City, the Ohio Dominican Panthers baseball team finally took the field on Sunday (March 5) afternoon against the Wayne State Warriors.
The Warriors won the first game 9-2 and took the nightcap 8-3 in a doubleheader contested at Ensworth School in Nashville.
GAME ONE
Jordan Daniels (Blacklick, Ohio) delivered a solo home run in the second inning, a line drive over the left field wall to putting ODU up 1-0. That was his first home run of the season and second of his career.
Wayne State tallied two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 4-1 lead.
The Panthers got a run back in the sixth inning. Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) started the frame with a single. Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) sent a ball back to the pitcher, who tried to get Marshall at second base. His throw missed the covering second baseman and both runners ended on base. Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) loaded the bases with a single to right field. Two batters later, Daniels plated Marshall with a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 4-2.
A five-run sixth inning gave Wayne State a 9-2 win in game one.
Mathey got his third multi-hit game of the season with two singles in the game. Daniels drove in both runs.
Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio) pitched a career-high five innings with a career best six strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings before Ohio Dominican got on the board.
An errant throw after an infield single by Brill put him on second base as the leadoff batter. Mathey singled him over to third base before Brill crossed the plate on a RBI groundout by David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio). The Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth.
With one run in the fifth inning and five in the sixth frame, the Warriors pushed the lead to 8-1 entering the seventh.
Sam Battles (Norwalk, Ohio) kicked off the seventh inning with a pinch-hit double down the third base line. Michael O'Callaghan (Morrow, Ohio) singled up the middle to score Battles. After a pitching change, Jake Scherette (Brunswick, Ohio) singled to keep the line moving. A groundout pushed both runners into scoring position while Daniels walked to load the bases. Shea White (Massillon, Ohio) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for his first collegiate RBI. The inning ended with two runs scoring and a 8-3 final score.
Scherette had a multi-hit affair in the second game as five different players had hits.
The series continues on Monday (March 6) at Blackman High School with another doubleheader. The Panthers and Warriors will begin at 11:20 AM Eastern.
