Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team wrapped up their home opening series with Wayne State on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers split with the Warriors, falling 8-3 in game one and taking game two, 6-1.
The Black and Gold combined for 14 hits between the two games with Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) and McKenna Conley (Mt. Orab, Ohio) collecting three apiece. Of the team's six RBIs in game two, Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) each accounted for two.
Three different Panthers made appearances in the circle in the first game with senior Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) picking up her sixth start of the year. In the second game, Freshman Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) added another win to her record, improving to 5-2. Jacobs collected two strikeouts in her 7.0 innings on the rubber.
Game One
The Warriors opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a double from Wrubel, taking an early 1-0 lead. Wayne State added two more in the top of the next frame after stringing together three hits, one being a two-run homerun.
WSU grew their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the frame, ODU answered with a double from Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) scoring Madden, making it 4-1. The Warriors added four more runs in the next three innings to extend their lead to 8-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers rallied scoring two off an error and a single to left field but fell short 8-3.
Game Two
WSU started strong again in the second game collecting two hits and a run in the opening frame. The Black and Gold retaliated with back-to-back singles from Madden and Stevens. A hard single from Congleton, combined with an error from the right fielder, allowed the Panthers to score two. In the next at-bat, Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.) singled to the same side scoring Congleton to take a 3-1 lead early.
Ohio Dominican struck again in the fifth with an RBI single from Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio). Stevens then doubled down the left field line, adding two more runs, bringing their lead to 6-1.
ODU remained perfect on the defensive end and took the second game 6-1, ending the day in the win column.

The Black and Gold hit the road to West Virginia for the Glenville State invitational where they'll play Glenville State, Mercyhurst, and Frostburg State over the course of the weekend.
